  1. hi phil i weighted it down with some weights from an old multijym
  2. two yrs ago i hooked a briefcase with about twenty pakistani passports in it.
  3. hi nugg;i get what you are saying but i dont know if you are quite right, the silt in canals is very fine,so fine in fact that even a dead maggot can sink straight down,i know this because i actualy own a quarter mile of canal myself and ive done a bit of checking, what do you think of this?i built a platform 6'x6'from `2by2s to sit just on top of the silt covered it with very fine mesh and had great results. theres a crazy idea, a portable folding aluminum platform with fine plastic mesh and a light cord for retrieval.
  4. when fishing worms at venues with soft silty bottoms (ie canals) carry a small syringe and inject air into the worm a few times to stop the worm sinking into the silt,(a bit barbaric i know) but it works a treat.
  5. also put some small holes in the bottle
  6. take a plastic 1ltr coke bottle and put some stones in it, then cut the bottle about 4 inches from the top and turn it around then jam it into the body of the bottle, put some chopped worms insid it and lower it into the water, and hey presto a very effective minnow trap.

  10. i own a quarter of a mile of private canal in west london and about three years ago i noticed quite a few fish with open ulcers on thier bodies suspecting polution i called in the enviroment agency.after taking water samples they told me that this was the result of low oxygene,i explained to the officer that fish float on thier sides gasping when oxygene is low and do not develope open sores.they said "we have given you the reason it is up to you to accept it" i knew they were fobbing me off so i called the angling times, after a couple of hours the editor called me ad told me that when he threatened to do an article on it they admitted that they had cleared a lake of diseased fish and put them into the local canal,we are still seeing diseased fish to this day.so i tend to believe that disease can be carried from one water to another.
