When does your yearly thread start that inspires and frustrates me in equal measures?!

    Ist day

Cheers mate Not the biggest fish but very welcome, my heart leapt out of my chest when my rod buckled round and the ratchet started screaming! That surf float is looking interesting! Is it easy to use?

I did, will upload it to photobucket when I'm home, not a massive fish but it's a barbel!

Well day two and I've had a barbel on the bank, happy days

    Ist day

Lets just pretend I never went fishing! All was looking good as I tackled up, barbel in the swim feeding, nice warm weather! It was perfect, untiL in my excitement at having a group of large barbel feeding confidently in front of me I completely mis-cast and launched my Dave Harrel barbel missile at the speed of well, a missile straight into the center of them. Needless to say they buffered off in a flash not to be seen again all day despite giving them 6/7 hours before I tried to coax them back out of hiding. Did catch lots and lots and lots of trout though and they put the new rod and reel through it's paces in the fast water, very happy with both! Will have to stop off after work tomorrow and hope I can tempt them to feed just long enough to snare one, feeling a bit (ok very) deflated right now as I was so confident!
  7. Don't blame you, funnily enough I've been told I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight so I don't wake Han up! Speen?
  8. Pm me your number and I will ring you when I get up at half two I shall be at B if you are heading up that way?
  9. I could only book one day off as I'm part way through welding up 1200 metal stakes for portable radio equipment so I'm going to make the most of it, on the kennet at very first light trotting maggot, home for breakfast and sort the kids out then straight back up there for the day Hope you catch a few Mike!
  10. Selling as I've got a new rod, very good condition looks like it will be a bargain http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=331226000327&alt=web
  11. It runs really well, I meant there was that much line on there it took forever to get it off, the spool was brimmed!
  12. It's here, so much nicer feeling than my Leeds given it bit of a clean and stripped the line off that was on it (took 10 minutes of using a bar in my lathe running at 1300rpm to strip it off, god knows where he was trotting to!)
  13. Nope got dispatched today so hopefully will be here tomorrow got a great video today of barbel feeding in the swim I've been baiting but it goes all grainy when I put it on photobucket Edit: managed to get it on YouTube
  14. Haha I wouldn't have been disappointed if I won it but would have had to sell my Leeds, with p&p it went for 85p more than I paid for mine
  15. At this rate I will be the proud owner of a second vt1002 if no one bids in the next 6 hours...

    float rod

There are more places to ask than on here and it came up quite a few times elsewhere and I found one for a good price. It's very similar to my Maver barbel rod except with an extra foot of length and a tip more suited to float fishing
  17. I hope it's a good'n paid £65 delivered for it off the bay, really am feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas day now, new rod and reel and a swim perfect for trotting that I've had barbel feeding in the last 4 times I've been up there

    float rod

First impressions are very good, it's fairly light and finished well, can't wait until next Monday now!
  19. Just bought a bronze vt 1002 that should be here tuesday or Wednesday
  20. After receiving my JW youngs rod I sold a few more bits and pieces as the need for a new 'pin became too strong to resist! Narrowed it down to a TFG classic and an ikonix reel, I would love a Sheffield but the surplace money from my welder is going into savings for Mr Lythe. Can't decide between the two, they both look nice and both a similar price so has anyone used either? Or are there any others I've missed in the £50 price bracket? I want a new reel rather than second hand
  21. I've had a few Stillwater sessions this close season but I just find myself getting bored for some reason! Although I'm tempted to go and have a go for a few carp off the surface this evening with my new rod

    float rod

Steve one of my first rods had seats like it, it happened a few times with that so I think I have a complex about it now haha! After a glass or two of red last night I bit the bullet and bought a JW youngs specimen rod that should be here tomorrow, quite a bargain at £45 with free next day p&p Just got this feeling now that I should buy a new 'pin to complement it..... Need the 16th to hurry up so I can stop spending money!

    float rod

Not a fan of the reel seats tbh, I would be worried about them moving or the reel falling out, I really like the jw young specimin but has the same seats Scratch that it would appear the jw youngs have now changed to Fuji screw seats

    float rod

In the market for a longer float rod but it must have some backbone as it will primarily be used to trot for barbel and chub but still needs to have a nice action for dace and roach. Not got a massive budget and ideally want something 13' or longer. The okuma carbonite and Shakespeare mach3 xt have caught my eye, has anyone used either? Cheers, Matt
  25. Stood mid river on my way home from work and there were a group of barbel and chub taking the bait I was trickling in a few rod lengths downstream, I really hope the conditions stay the same for the next two weeks!
