  1. The method that has always worked for me is to use some washing up liquid with a little water onto a bare patch of soil, however you have already stated about you have tried that! so I didnt really help there did I Cheers, Stooby...
  2. It was bizarre as I was after Bream believe it or not...! I was fishing hard on the bottom with Corn where I normally catch them, until the Perch started getting interested... although thinking back over it I think it was my own fault as i threw in some maggots to liven things up a little and it was from that point onwards... I didnt expect them to take corn though? I guess they were hungry! - and then to make matters worse, I stuck a single maggot on my hook bait along with the corn to catch the Breams eye... and that was a mistake too! Do'h!
  3. Thanks Andy, Yeah I have a disgorger but was still a pain in the backside! perhaps I need to get a better one, I'll put it down to that I think... I was surprised at how much bait the little greedy blighters would take!!! Well it's nice to know that it's not just me with the deep hooking...! Cheers, Stooby...
  4. Hi all, I've only caught a few Perch and each and every one has taken the hook and bait very deep down, none of them seem to have hooked nicely in the lip, all of them have been awkward to remove due to the fact it's so deep down in their body. My question is, are they notoriously known for swalling the bait right down and awkward to unhook? or have I just been unlucky? When I have caught the Perch I have actually been after other species! Cheers, Stooby...
  5. Oh man, a weekend of fishing without the other half at home clock watching!!!... Thats what dreams are made of!!... No such luck for me...
  6. Hi all, Since starting fishing earlier this year this is my first year where I have experienced the spawning off fish... how does this affect fishing? Do they stop feeding during spawning? how long do they spawn for? do different species spawn at different times? I went to a lake yesterday where previously I've regularly caught Bream, however - not a single bite from a Bream, not a even a line bite... I got a couple of tiny Perch - which wasn't too bad as I've never caught a Perch before so that took the annoyance levels away a bit! - another angler said that the Bream were spawning in the area, so put it down to that possibly?? Cheers, Stooby...
  7. Good luck in handling them to use as bait... I would need 2 very long sticks if i were to try and hook them!... or just ask someone else who isn't quite as wimpy as me when it comes to spiders! I don't mind the little ones, but when they start knocking your bait box over, picking up your flask and drinking from it, and you can hear them walking, thats the ones that bother me!!!
  8. Hi all, I went out on the lakes Friday evening, and there was a multitude of spiders attacking my rod!!! Now, I'm not a fan of spiders, in fact I tend to run away like a little girl when I see them!!... so, as you can imagine this was becoming a problem, especially when I had a good bite from a Bream and couldnt actually strike as there was a tasty meaty looking arachnid on my handle, looking at me as if to say, go on I dare you!!!.... obviously, I lost the fish... knocked the rod on the floor, "escorted" the spider away and started again... Has anyone else had a similar experience with these horrible 8 legged, 8 eyed monsters whilst fishing?? If only I could capture them as bait hee hee.... Cheers, Stooby...

Hi all, Is it possible to get a rough estimate in weight if you know the length and approximate girth? is there some kind of rule of working it out...? Cheers, Stooby...
  11. I bet the misses will be secretly pleased if you did! but of course she will show you her dismay and pity look for you, but inside she will be trying her hardest not to be happy about it!
  12. Perhaps with a bit of wet bread mashed into the mix as well! ??? Just a thought...
  13. On the subject of weird bates.... let me mention "Stuffing balls"... anyone tried it? Its just nice and smelly and plyable (before they are properly cooked) and looks like something a fish would eat.... anyone tried it??? I'm not trying to hijack your post Craig... :-) honest! Cheers, Stooby...
  14. Or a Family Feast with extra hot wings from the colonel himself....!!! actually, that might be my next "lunch" to take with me fishing, how ace would that be.... hmmm.... I wonder if Bream like southern fried chicken!
  15. Saved me a few notes as well, thank you! Craig, order 2 as discussed!!! Sweet..... Cheers, Stooby...
  16. Hi All, I turned 30 a few months back, and I only started fishing a few months ago, but when I started everyone, and I mean pretty much everyone took the mick some what and started saying things like "Have you just turned 70" or, "Are you taking you slippers", you know, the kind of comments that would indicate fisherman are all of the older generation... but from the lakes and rivers I've fished at so far, that's just not the case..... so my question is, why do people see it this way??? Cheers, Stooby...
  17. identifying fish isn't always as easy as I first thought!
  18. Oh well, there is always next time eh! £7,500 thats not a bad days pay! - plus the bonus of being a record holder! I went out this morning before work to the same place, and I got distracted by watching 2 swans making a next just off to one side of me, I only realised I had a bit on my polaris when the rod started bouncing up and down on the bank sticks out the corner of my eye!! at which point I struct and missed the thing! I couldnt believe it... that'll teach me to pay more attention at 05:30 in the morning! Cheers, Stooby...
  19. Hi tinca steve, I hope it is a Silver Bream! that would be ace... to be honest, I didnt know there were even 2 types! Could anyone else comment on the above from Tinca Steve to confirm if it is a Silver or a Bronze??? Cheers, Stooby...
  20. I guess it depends on the waters I guess, but the colour seems to be the key indicator... thanks Budgie!
  21. I read somewhere that it was about 5 years old, does that sound about right?
  22. Having a Tinca take the bait would not be a bad thing... so now I can fish exactly the same way, with a chance of getting more than one species... suits me fine! When does a Skimmer stop being a skimmer and get called a Bream???
  23. No problem at all! and that a brilliant pic!!! :-)
  24. Still plenty to learn, but I feel like i'm getting there and understanding watercraft that much more... Thank you to you both...
  25. Hi all, I had my first fish yesterday evening where I actually had to use my landing net!!!! Yes, I know, sad isn't it!!! but hey, it was a brillait moment from the normal lifting a few oz roach/rudd out of the water by just using my rod! But this one was different, too big for that I thought!... a very proud moment of mine having to use my net for the first time... check it out, it only weighed 1lb 6oz, but it was big enough for me and a change from the norm....!!! and my first Skimmer/Bream... Cheers, Stooby...
