  1. My parents and I were regulars at Manor Farm until they introduced day ticket/night fishing on the river sections. The last time we visited all the best Barbel pegs were occupied for the whole week we were there with camper vans and bivvies etc. Which really spoilt the week for me as that was the reason for making the trip down there. Needless to say we haven't been back since. This was a little while ago now so things might have changed since then and it was a particularly busy period immediately prior to the Evesham Angling Festival over the August bank holiday which might explain why it was so busy. It's still one of the best sections of river I've ever fished so you'll just have to take you chances and hope for the best.
  2. I just like add a quick message to say that a few weeks ago as I was passing London and I popped in and visited Les Webber @ Angling Projects to donate the tackle mentioned in the post that started this thread. Les is great guy and has done a lot of hard work over the years, the fishery looked amazing so much so I wish I'd had the rest of my tackle with me for a few hours fishing! Angling Projects has helped to transform the lives of lots of young people from around the UK and if any other forum members have any surplus tackle hanging around then I urge you to get in touch with Les. Thanks to the Budgie for suggesting Angling Projects and long may the good work continue.
  3. New Marske Resovoir maybe?? You might know the old man Roger, he fishes the sunday matches.
  4. Thanks for the info Budgie I'll get in touch with Les and see what if he can use the tackle.
  5. Hi mate sorry but the rods aren't identical. 1 is a shakespear winklepicker and the other is an Abu Garcia.
  6. Hi All It's been a while since I've posted, but I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a small selection of coarse fishing tackle that I no longer use and was wondering if there are any charities/clubs out there that could use the gear. Amongst the items I have are and old Grand Slam 3 Drawer seat box with octoplus leg system footplate and side tray (it has my name and Middlesbrough Angling Club on the side). 2 Rod bags, an old Browning 11m pole with a spare top section 2 feeder rods and a fixed spool reel. All the items have been well used but have been well looked after and are in good condition for their age and still work perfectly well. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers Dave
  7. You can always get your sections repaired there are couple of companies out there but I've used Pole Repairs before and they are good. Costs around £30 plus postage.
  8. My first fishing gear was a starter kit a 3m whip infact. It came with a huge float taking several gramms a size 12 barbed hook and line that can only be described as shark fishing line. Needless to say the whip was the only bit of the starter kit that got used. I had to purcahase floats line ans hooks seperately. Things might have changed since then but my advice would be to either buy second hand from someone who is selling up or just go out and buy the individual items. He will then get what he wants/needs and something that is totally unsuitable.
  9. I can sympathise with how you feel there. I've been getting the same feeling for a while now and only fish commercials during the winter months when they are quiet and the silver fish are in form. Apart the points you mention Peter the other reasons that put me off commercials, I must say this is on commercial fishery in particular which I will not mention cos I dont want to get sued, is the water quality during the summer. Low oxygen levels, fatty scum on the surface, water stinking like sweage, and the bailif going round the fishery first thing scooping all the dead fish out of the water. How this is allowed to happen I have no idea and it sickens me greatly. The litter is my other complaint and me and father often end up with several carrier bags full of rubbish and thats usually just from the pegs we are fishing!
  10. Okuma or shimano both do very good reals for that price. I use both brands. Just started using Okuma but I have used Shimano for years and they are faultless. Shimano front drag reals shimano front drag reals shimano front drag reals okuma front drag reals
  11. For big fish I'd be using a power kit , which are normally long top 2's. I'd also recommend using a pulla bung of some description as landing large fish can be difficult if you have miles of elastic stretched out.
  12. I wouldn't recommend this pole for margin fishing, fishing close to snags or for fishing for large carp with big bates like paste etc but it should be ok for smaller carp and tench in open water. It very much depends on the venue and the average size of the fish that are stocked. I have caught some quite large carp, accidently I might add, whilst fishing for silvers using blue hydro elastic through a standard match top 3 kit rated to a 12 elastic so it can be done but again I wouldn't purposly set out to fish for carp this way.
  13. Hi All New to the forum but I've been following Angler's Net for a while. Well what can I say about myself. I've been fishing for lots of years now about 17 or so to be more accurate. Coarse fishing is my thing, my favourite methods are pole, method feeder and waggler. My favourite species would be Roach followed closely by Tench but in all honesty I'll fish for anything thats hungry . My biggest angling influence over the years would have to Bob Nudd MBE, fishing legend and all round nice guy. Other influences are John Wilson, Chris Yates and Alan Scothorn. I'm no expert I'll admit but I'll gladly share my opinions and experiences with other users. I'm Looking forward to abit of banter on the forum and learning a bit from other members.
  14. Wow!!! If only more ladies were into fishing in this country.
  15. Indeed this is a good way of using standard elastics to ensure you have a bit of extra stretch if needed. All of my top kits now run with hydro and pulla bungs which I find more suitable for commercials and unpredictable fisheries where you never know what the next fish will be. I only have 2 top kits with standard elastics which I use for a specific venue where the fish are incredibly shy and finiky and require light lines and small hooks even during the summer months.
  16. Basically you have 2 strength elastics running through your top kit. You attach your rig to the weaker of the 2 elastics and then attach a piece of line with 2 loops, one on each end, from elastic connector to elastic connector say 18in long. When you get a bite the weaker elastic works to cusion the strike but if the fish pulls out 18in of the weaker elastic the stronger elastic will begin to work in conjunction with the weaker elastic. Dave Born to fish................. Forced to work!
