  1. Looks like Cadover, hope I don't get one when I give that place a go. Horrible things! Gary.
  2. One tip that I can give is to use float adapters so that you can very easily change the depth you are fishing at and change the actual float itself as the float is connected (well the one I have) using a snaplink. Infact using snaplinks and ready made rigs can save a lot of time when changing things around, trying different sized hooks, etc. The bait I seem to have the most luck with is bacon grill and it keeps its form very well although I used fair sized chunks to try and deter the smaller fish. On Monday, with my float rod fishing the margins with a 6g pellet waggler float and 6lb line and size 10 hook I pulled in a 11lb Mirror Carp. My personal best. Got nowt on the ledger rod! Gary.
  3. An interesting thread! I have just come back into fishing after 20yr absence and although reasonably comfortable with float fishing I had never tried ledgering either. I recently bought a Carp rod and have given it a go (been out twice with it) but so far no fish (except one small foul hooked Carp). I am using a basic safety rig, size 10 and 8 hooks with different 15mm boilies hair rigged (braid) but no screaming takes as yet. I think my rig is OK (despite 15lb line that came with the baitrunner reel, it can't be seen anyway due to sink tubing). Prior to getting the Carp rod (Fox Warrior Z) I had taken 2-3lb Carp on the float rod fishing at varying depths in my local lake (always with bacon grill which they seem to love). I thought you needed the ledger rod to catch the bigger fish but on Sat I caught a 11lb Mirror Carp on my float rod fishing in the margins on 6lb line! I was obviously well chuffed as it was a personal best but I want to catch with the Carp rod too. Although I usually put a pva bag of boilies (about 6) on the hook before I catch I have not yet got into using groundbait so think I will give that a shot next using an inline method feeder. I also think I need to try a different area of the lake. Tis frustrating not to catch off the ledger rod especially when it seems those around me catch regularly and decent size fish. I'm also not sure how long I should leave the bait out there before I reel in and cast out again. Half an hour, 20 mins.... longer? Should I always cast to same position or move to a different spot? I suppose if you are using groundbait then you should stick to the same spot as eventually the fish with come? Any help appreciated.. Gary.
  4. Cheers, this old post just helped me with my new Okuma reel which I thought was bust! Not had a baitrunner type reel before.
