  1. I agree on you two tone point though. The very straight lines we see on two tone fish lead me to think that there is a spinal problem at some point in life. It seems to be stopping pigment info passing all the way down the fish.

  3. Sorry chris that's rubbish chris. Only the originals were like that. All other fish in the canal were fine. the fish were eventually moved to other club lakes when the canal was dredged and they all still look like that. this fish was from the same canal

  5. I've seen carp like these before. It was just probably an injury when it was young. have a look at this fish from Raduta 40+ http://www.ukcarp.net/Gallery/ChrisWoodrow...05M06102001.asp talking of strange fish, I used to fish a canal in St Helens and all the old original carp in there were the wierdest looking heavilly scaled long lean fish.

  14. Wht don't you look for a nut meal boilie mix. This can then be made up exactly as you would when making boilies, just dont boil. Use eggs and flavourings and mix in the powder until you have the desired If pastes you make, say, out of cat food and it is too soft to stay on the hook, you will need to stiffen it. The same boilie mix can be used. But one of my favorite additives I use to stiffen paste is powdered instant mash, you do not need a lot as it takes up a lot of liquid. My favorite paste of all time is made from tinned Chappie dog food. I use the sloppy stuff straight from the tin as feed (you wouldn't feed it your dog) and stiffen some up with powdered mash for the hook. Another little trick I've used is to firstly mount some other bait on the hook, like luncheon meat, then mold the paste around the meat. You know then that if the paste has come off, or soffened too much in the water and come off that there is still some bait left on the hook. And yet another trick was to use a tiny float fished over depth, with no weights on the line. you then carfully tighten the float to the paste ball until the float is cocked. If the paste comes off the float will lie flat on the water letting you know. Hope this helps Singy

  16. IMO the one I make myself. But if you're after a comercialy available base mix I would go for Nutrabaits Big fish mix. It isn't a true fish meal mix as it contains milk derivetives and bird foods. But it sure is a catcher. Singy
  17. Problem is Adam, if a few people on a lake you've paid a lot of money to fish, got together and prebaited the lake in a number of the swims, would you struggle along fishing the unproductive swims or try to out do them in the pre-baiting stakes. Baiting Wars, Episode 2 What if the lake only had say 6 swims and 3 of them were being prebaited. You arrive to find no one fishing. You have the lake to yourself. Where would you fish? The fish are showing over someones prebaited swim. I only add bait during and after I've fished and I generally add bait in areas where I know fish will feed but people can't fish. that way they are getting a taste of my bait, they are not being caught over my bait and I will in the long tearm reap the rewards. There was a time on a lake I used to fish when 3 anglers were secretly baiting the same area in the close season anly to all turn up on opening day to fish the same swim. Needless to say there were lots of heated words and two very **** off anglers.

  19. One thing to remember is that pre baiting a swim does not give you exclusive access to that swim, Unlike a lot of anglers think.

  23. Mary, the old record was a male fish at 50lb plus. Male and female carp can grow to equal sizes. 'Wild' carp were a strain of carp originally brought over here by the monks and the romans. They rarely got into double figures, but could reach a max weight of 25lb. These were later replaced by a different strain of carp that was bigger and faster growing coming from Europe and Eastern Europe. Notably the 'leney' strain. These were the fish stocked into redmire.

  25. I found this picture on a somewhat dodgy web site. I thought you might find it interesting. It seems to me that the fish has been surviving quite comfortaby (until it was caught) this fish was I believe caught in the states. [ 30 May 2002, 11:30 AM: Message edited by: singy ]
