  1. Chair, bed and trolley arrived this morning. All looks good. Well done Ultimate. I hasten to add that I have no connection to Ultimate in any way. I just believe in credit where it's due. We're quick to slag off companies when they cock up (and so we should). It's only fair that we speak up when we're happy. Can't wait to try it all out now. Paul
  2. Lobworms work on "wet". It's a sliding scale. If it's been raining all day you can find em half out of their holes at 11pm completely out by around 12pm. If it hasn't rained so much you'll have to wait a bit longer. If it hasn't rained much at all you'll have to wait 'til around 4am but they will come out. I once got my collar felt years ago after someone had called the plod cos someone was crawling around on the grass in the park with a torch. If they're not completely out of the hole you need to identify which end is which. go for the head end and it's gone quick as a flash. Grab the end that's coming out of the hole or even put your finger on the hole while you grab with the other hand. Then as Leon says, you have to learn how much to pull or how long to wait before you pull. The shorter the grass the more successful you'll be. Paul
  3. An update. Spoke to a guy at Ultimate (who turned out to be the MD) After confirming that the XL comfort chair was just what I was looking for; http://www.ultimate-direct.co.uk/product.a...86&P_ID=556 I asked for a bedchair recommend and although he could have pointed me at more expensive beds, he told me to go with; http://www.ultimate-direct.co.uk/product.a...86&P_ID=134 I had some money in my PayPal account and although they don't take PayPal, they do sell on Ebay. He told me to buy from there and he would adjust the postage. In their Ebay shop I also bought a trolley; http://www.ultimate-direct.co.uk/product.a...49&P_ID=318 They adjusted the price to £138 all in. Just £10 postage. Haven't received them yet but that's excellent customer service. Can't wait to get my arse in that armchair on the bankside Paul
  4. Thanks for the replies guys. Timely too. My finger was getting twitchy on a daddy longlegs thats just about to finish on Ebay. The Korum looks good but when you add on for the arms and the legs etc it was too dear. I'm liking the look of that Kashkym XL armchair Tinca. I think I'll call them on Monday to see if I can get a deal on a chair and a bed. I'm not even looking at a bivvy. I've just bought a handy tent from Argos and I think it's great. Bought it for archery as well as fishing and I love it. Can pole out the door or roll it up and you can stand up in it. Maybe not as robust as some but it'll do for me for occasional use. Paul
  5. Hi guys. I'm just getting the flavour again after not doing much for a few years. I've decided to get a sensible chair and maybe a bed chair for overnighters. I'm completely green when it comes to this modern stuff so I need some help choosing one. I'm not a Carp fisherman and defo not a tackle tart but I want the job done for the best price for something that will last. Questions; Can you actually use a bed chair as a chair? I've not seen any pics of any in the "chair" position. Is it worth looking for an eight leg rather than a six leg for occasional use? As for the chair, I have a back problem that kicks in if my bum is lower than my knees so would like a decent height to it. Would also like armrests if possible provided the back can still recline. It has to recline because these days, if I stay still for about ten minutes I'm likely to go out like a light and fall off the bloody thing. So over to you guys. Which ones do I go for? I've looked at loads but have no idea about quality etc and I've found that most of the descriptions leave a lot to be desired. Please help me out peeps. Any advice will be appreciated. Paul
  6. Hi Ken. Yes, done that with Google maps and Google earth which, in itself is enjoyable but they can't tell you what the fishing's like or if the car park is safe to leave the van etc. I guess tackle shops are the only resource for that. Still haven't found that camel/sphinx shaped rock though.
  7. What does a decent charter cost these days Barry? I remember way back when, as a boy, I got in the boat while the big boys pushed it down the greasy planks at Deal. Do they still do that?
  8. Well thanks anyway. Better than nothing.
  9. I have to say I'm disappointed at the response to this thread. Maybe you guys on the south coast just don't like sharing huh? Thanks to those who bothered anyway.
  10. Looking at Google Earth, it seems they've change the entry pier at West Bay. One of my favourite places. I once watched a man catching prawns/shrimp with half a dozen drop nets along the west pier. They had a string tied across to put some bait on and he went from one to the next and then started again. he had a bucketful in no time. Paul
  11. Thanks Barry. Haven't been charter boat fishing for years. Yes I'm surprised at the lack of response. Still, I've got plenty of time. I'm in love with the area as much as the fishing and when I get further west, where the cliffs and rocks are I might even lob in a couple of lobster/prawn pots. I remember years ago, a mark that had a rocky outcrop that looked like a Camel's head but can't think where it was. Rinsey Head maybe? Anyone know? Paul
  12. Been around for a while now Barry. Just not very active. Might even see you and Leon on Thurs night. Been about two years since I went to one of those. Paul
  13. I'm planning a trip along the south coast for when it gets a bit warmer. I'll be starting in Dorset and going through to Cornwall. I'd very much appreciate any local knowledge anyone would like to share. Catching large amounts of fish comes a very poor second to somewhere that's tucked out of the way and scenic. Also, I'll be semi roughing it in the back of my tranny van (might splash out on a cheap B+B now and then when the smell gets too bad so any cheap campsites would be handy or places like the car park at Abbotsbury where there are toilets and access to the beach (haven't been for years. Is it still there?). Getting all excited already. Please help me out guys. Paul
  14. Try the mot garage in Fairview Ave Rainham. I said I might want one for a barbie. They said "Anytime". Paul
  15. I took two of my grandsons out on Tuesday. Charley (9) & Jack (6). We fished the Medway below Sluice Weir. Not much flow so I set them up with quiver tips & a single sweetcorn kernel on a size 12, freelined except for a single shot to aid casting. I didn't fish myself. I chucked in loads of cloudbait with some free samples mixed in. Within minutes Charley had a nice skimmer bream which he declared was the biggest fish he'd ever caught. I told him what a great fish it was & shook his hand. He was beaming from ear to ear. Shortly afterwards he had another, which changed Jack's face into a smacked arse & I started getting "grandad, can we try a worm?". "Grandad, can we try a maggot?". Then Jack caught a 10 inch chub which I told him was a great fish & shook his hand & he was beaming like his brother. They went on to take about 18 fish between them with Jack taking a stocky 10 inch Roach which I declared to be the best fish of the day. A great day, enjoyed by all. The only down side was leaving it slightly late packing away & getting eaten alive by the mossies. I don't normally get a lot of attention from mosquitoes but this lot must've been a Rambo strain cos every one of the buggers actually drew blood. This is a shame because I'd like to go back & fish through this twilight period because I'm convinced the better fish will come on the feed once things cool down a bit. Can anyone recommend a good mossie repellant?
  16. That was the "Super Wizard" Chris. The Tornado Match is actually labelled 11 3/4. Just so you know it next time. Here's a pic
  17. You trying to say I'm old Ferret Mine has two tops. I was showing my brother how you can pick up a quality rod by it's tip. My rod has a regular top section & a six inch shorter "ledger" one as well now
  18. Thanks Chris, I don't need to use it. I was going to give it to one of the grandsons but i'll hang on to it for a bit longer. I'll keep it together with my Alcocks Super Wizard which was bought new for me when I was a whippersnapper.
  19. Hi all. I have a mint Daiwa Ivan Marks Tornado 11ft 9in match rod. Unused, with the shrink wrap still on the handle. Just wondering if it's worth anything or should I just use it? Any ideas?
