  1. I suppose that question opens up a whole new debate lol I consider 14 consecutive days on the same water same place without a run hard work, but the same time of year as the previous year I couldn’t go wrong using the same rigs/baits. I know there will have been other factors involved temp/water levels/light conditions but I consider that hard work, or as some people may say stupid!! But hey full marks for effort and dedication. But I think we have all heard other anglers saying some waters are harder than others!
  2. Am sure that could be a factor, am just lucky to live in a place where catching the same fish again would probably be lottery odds lol I keep referring to my local water as “my lake” because when on leave I fished it for a full week from dust till dawn from boat and shore and never seen another angler and the lakes 4 miles long 1.5 miles across. So does that mean a small over fished water is harder to catch than large natural water?? Hence a North/south divides, or is the more heavily fished waters easier as tactics and locations are more readily passed on to other anglers. The reason being the south having generally smaller man made gravel pits and the north large natural waters
  3. yes thats true but i,d be fair to my word and i would not fish a place that if i thought by me taking a fish for the table was going to effect the enviroment then i wouldnt fish it, and to do so would be reckless ! we are loosing sight of what fishing is really about ?
  4. Well we are talking about totally different places because am sure if every angler took every fish they ever caught from my local water it wouldn’t make a jot of difference, I must just be one of the lucky ones and if fishing pressure was as high as you likely make out it is, in your area I’d pack it in as by the sounds of it if you have a deeply hooked fish that doesn’t survive its ordeal it might be the last in your area!!
  5. I really cannot believe some people including yourself are on the same planet if it is the case that I am one of very few that actually take fish for the table I should start taking more as there is likely by your talk nearly all fish being returned which leaves more for me !! Like I have already said 99% of my fish are returned but let’s cut the ****s does, me taking a wild lake caught brownie maybe a handful of times really effect the “local ecology” let’s get real if your that bothered about stop putting a line in the water.
  6. So should the question be is there a difference between fishing pike in stocked waters than none stocked waters the general feeling is the south being shallow man made gravel pits and of course the broads and the north being big deep natural waters. Is there anyone who has experience fishing northern and southern waters?? And have they found a real difference.
  7. Manchester is still south to me but we are including scotland in this so its about halfway.
  8. Following arguments from previous posts is there such a thing as north south dived even in the pike fishing world. Is it harder catching pike the further north you go? (North being Manchester and above)
  9. I would look at changing your braid to POWER PRO I have tried all types but this is by far the best in my opinion especially for bait caster reels
  10. And that statement is fair to say if you take a specimen fish for the table then it will be dead at some stage of the process!!! And if it is released then it won’t be, come on it’s not rocket science!!!! and to dispatch the fish after I’ve caught it is the hunter in me, I only eat meats I have caught myself i.e. pheasants ,rabbits ,deer ,and fish of various species so my conscience is clear is yours ?
  11. Yes I have found that with flavoured baits, I’ve experimented with my own oils and flavourings but without a doubt I do find blood red dynamite bait flavouring out fishes none flavoured baits of the same species of dead bait. I fished the same water for 3 days with 3 rods and found that the bait that was flavoured out fished non flavoured bait considerably. This has happened on several occasions since then but has anyone found a colour makes a difference?
  12. Hi, all has anyone had any noticeable better success in there pike fishing with the use of different coloured dead baits, I have tried it several times myself but not enough to decipher a real answer as to weather a certain colour is better than others ? I have however found certain scented baits; do seem to attract more fish.
  13. Surely are intention is to catch fish??? Either for the sport or the table, and like you I get the same feeling seeing 99.9% of my fish swim safely away! But I have no worries in despatching fish for eating I quite recently despatched a badly hooked lure caught pike (swallowed a small perch lure} this decision was made after several minutes trying to revive the fish but to no avail ! {admin note: comment removed.}
  14. HI, yes I have fished mockerkin with some success I have found the pike generally small but my farther had high teens so the big girls are in there!! It is spoilt by the, only fishing one side of the tarn rule especially if the dreaded” carpers” have taken up most of the bank with their endless bivvies’ trolleys tables and all the other “crap” they think they need for an afternoons fishing but a nice small water none the less it makes a nice change to the somewhat harder lakes in our area.
  15. It’s just funny what fishing has come to, every time you cast a line in the water you run risk of your potential catch not surving its ordeal. One of my best memories as a child was fishing with my grandfather and returning home with a 3 pound "brownie had caught myself and couldn’t wait to show my family, I had no qualms of killing it for the table then, I don’t now.
  16. This is true but that as always happened war or no war its the uk private security that need to watch out !!
  17. Well I have read the whole thread and have seen nothing to support the TMs case at all. It's all 'none of you are as clued up as me' we all like to think we are the best at what we do but there does seem to be some "blagging" going on !!!
  18. Well I have read the whole thread and have seen nothing to support the TMs case at all. It's all 'none of you are as clued up as me'
  19. Yes thats me lol yes thats an idea we should sort it out !! dont get me wrong i do enjoy winter fishing for pike but for "our" lakes its more just for a day out, than the actual catching of any pike and i do consider myself to know how to catch pike as i,ve fished for them all over europe and the uk to good success but to say i couldnt fish for pike in summer would be like telling a "carper" he cant use boilies and real tree slippers.
  20. And it's not unusual for folk to have a debate, and it's not unusual for others not to. Perhaps thet serves as an equally helpful summary? Rubbish' for who? why is debate (arguing) pointless? Given the number of posts it attracted it created a bit of interest rather than a grey 'man catches fish' thread. I enjoyed it and I suspect some ohers did too, its like the TV off switch, just opt out if it's not to your taste.
  21. yes i agree fully i live in cumbria and fish the lakes with my farther that has fished these waters since the "60,s" and to say we couldnt fish for "our" pike in the summer would completely destroy our pike fishing as these are our best time of year on lures and on bait.
  22. I tried to, it says I don't have permission to. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?
  23. Hiya, I'm Danny, from the western lake district. (Cumbria). will fish for most species but am especially interested in pike.
