  1. I think it also depends on how you were introduced to fishing. When first started last year i caught 4 fish in about 4 hours so i never expect to bag up or catch big fish during a session. I go fishing to relax. I set myself targets but think its a bonus if i actally achieve them. But my mate stated fishing a couple of months after me and his first session we both did really well and caught alot of good roach and a couple of carp. I told him that would be a rare day but he kept moaning when it didnt happen again. He packed up after 5 months.
  2. if was another angler then bob roberts. He seems like he would be interesting to listen to. If its a non-angler then it would have be Pixie Lott. Then the fish might not be the only form of entertainment.
  3. I was going to use a float but think gonna have to try that method now. sounds interesting to try. how light a tip do you mean? i think the lightest ive got is 1oz. will that do the job?
  4. can you just clear this up for me phone. when you say minnow do you mean every fish that isnt predatory? ive only really seen you mention predators, carp and minnows. but sometimes you call carp minnows. is it the american way or do you mean the fish that we would call minnows (dont know the scientific name)?
  5. is there any known reason why barbel dont seem to do very well in stillwaters, or is it as of yet unknown? has anybody caught a barbel that seems to be thriving perfectly fine in a stillwater? and i dont mean just surviving. i mean flourishing into a strong population.
  6. ive heard a few others say that. but why are people more bothered about barbel? are they more fragile or is it because they have thier own set of 'worshippers'. im prepared to get a bit of stick for saying this but should the welfare of one fish really be above anothers.
  7. i recently caught a chub in a local commercial and it got me thinking. should traditional river fish, such as chub and barbel, be put in stillwaters. or are they better of being left in the rivers. ive heard tht in rivers chub are good fighters but this one just seemed to give in right away. i dont know if is true of all stillwater chub or barbel, or was just this particular fish. what do you guys know or think about it?
  8. that would have to be one hell of a special fish to pay 500 quid for a painting of it to be done.
  9. looking at some of the latest threads this may be a sore point for some but i want to catch some good rudd. ive only caught a few that were no bigger than about 6oz but they nice looking fish. i know a place where there are some up to 1lb and would love catch one that big. so any general tips for them would be useful. thanks in advance.
  10. the weather has made it harder to get out, and when i have been out ive had to break ice to fish. cant wait for the spring to bring some nice weather.
  11. ive heard that river fish often fight better than a stillwater fish of the same size and species and was wondering if this is true. the only river fish ive caught is perch and i cant say i noticed much of a difference. but ive been told that it makes a big difference with barbel and chub. is it true or does is it regional thing or does it depend on the size of river etc.
  12. im back fishing again which is a good thing but the reason why isnt. after 5 weeks training i tore a muscle or something in my ankle so the army have medically discharged me. so to get over my self pity ive bought a new korum 3G float rod and plan to go fishing tomorrow. then its a trip to the jobcentre.
  13. im going in the REME as a vehicle machanic. will try to post when i get time. and thanks for the advice.
