  1. Has anyone fished anywhere in Dorset? I am looking for somehere to fish for a few nights in August and the only pre-requisites are that it holds a good head of carp and that it has a nice dunnie for the missus! Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Merci beaucoup.
  2. What are they then!!!! I've checked and there doesnt seem to be a close season. Will check it out thouroughly though I coul djust stick to the carp I suppose!
  3. Good day to you all, first time I've ventured into this forum, wooppeeee youre all saying! Anyway, to the point, I will be going fishing to Amsterdam in May where I will be fishing one of the many canals there. I was thinking about unleashing my first attempt at fishing for pike onto the Dutch while I was there. Now, I know that I will be requiring a wire trace and some treble hooks for the business end but I am stuck with what bait to use and what are the features to look for on the canals which could hold pike??? There are also zander in the canals in Holland, are these fearsome looking fish likely to be tempted by the same baits as pike would be?? Hope I've not blitzed you all with too much, any help would be muchly appreciated.
  4. Cheers for those nuggets of information. I will however be going in late May and on this particualr stretch of dutch canal, you fish on the opposite side to the public side of the canal so fishing the far bank would mean putting a bait right under the feet of all the joggers, strollers, bikes etc. Would this matter???
  5. Much appreciated Koi, there is a small amount of quite large barges that go through I think, looking at some pictures I found it looks pretty daunting with the size of the waves that the things make.
  6. What sort of different features should you look for on a canal when carp fishing? I'm talking about those big canals like you get in Holland and Belgium. Can you just stick to the tried and trusted method of chucking 1 at the far bank and 1 in close or are you likely to find that these canals have features in them like gravel patches, weed beds etc??? Much appreciated.
  7. Can anybody help please? COME ON I cant answer my own question!
  8. Sorry about the weird topic header but I couldn't really think of anything else. Later this year in May, a group of us are going out to fish the Sloterplas in Amsterdam. We went out last year in September and had a reasonable trip with quite a few carp up to 29lbs. While we were there, most of the other anglers were using boats with marker poles, this time we plan to take a boat but I have been unable to track down any of these marker poles, can anyone tell me where I can acquire some of these elusive items?? The other question I had was what sort of main line is best to use considering the presence of huge beds of razor sharp mussels? Thanks for reading, Marc.
  9. It's gotta be John Wilson for me. I suupose it's because he was on the telly alot but also because he is a maestro of all angling disciplines. Glory Glory John Wilson, Glory Glory John Wilson, Glory Glory John Wilson, And the maggots go marching on, on, on.
  10. Sadly, maybe, mine was finding this online carp extravaganza. Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice I have been given during the past year, it has cetainly boosted my catch rate infinately. A merry Xmas and happy new year to you all.
  11. about an inch square. not sure who makes them but there are probably several companies who do.
  12. I get it from a pet / garden centre. I'm sure that all quality pet shops will sell it. I think they will work a wonder in a PVA bag.
  13. 1 little block produces absolutely shed loads. Costs about 2-50 for pack of about 20. Anyway the amount of money some of you boys pump into your tackle is unbelievable. I think I spend all my time and money trying to find a new killer bait (not literally), obviously havent yet cos I'd be quite famous by now.
  14. I bought some of this frozen fish food the other day, it's the stuff that you feed your pet fish and basically it is made up of tiny little shrimp things that you defrost in a shot glass of water from your tank. I hadnt fed my fish this before but they went into an absolute frenzy when I put it in. Obviously got me wondering whether this would be safe to use as an addition to my method mix and carp groundbait. Theyre brilliant as they are very small shrimpies, some of them float around which would be ideal for use with groundbait I reckon. Any takers??????? (Oh, by the way, all my fish in the tank are Carp of 1 variety or other)
  15. WOW, 200 rigs, now thats gotta have every possible scenario covered, and more! I usually will have my tackle box next to me when I am working on my computer at home, but I will usually be trying to perfect 1 rig or just mess about and see what I can come up with. Apart from that I suppose I spend alot of time preparing bait and keeping an eye on the ever changing weather forecasts, but I think the thing I do most is DAYDREAM about my next trip, wondering if I'm going to catch that elusive lake monster!!.
  16. You obviously havent had a greyhound as a pet Mr Singleton. Anything else makes him s**t a cow pat!
  17. While feeding my greyhound the other day I had an idea of using the dog food I feed him for method mix. The brand is Chappie and when it is mixed up properly with a fork it makes this ideal looking brown goo. It looks a bit like mushy chopped up cardboard. Basically I was wondering if this would be a safe bait to use, don't want to go polluting my club water now! Any ideas?
  18. The method I have used very succesfully for the past few seasons is to put a load of CSL pellets into the bottom of my bucket, put in enough boiling water to cover the pelets, give them a good stir and then leave them for 15 minutes to break down. After the 15 minutes, stir up the pellets to break them down further. Now I add some CSL liquid (and any other goodies, mollasses etc.), then I put in enough groundbait (take your pick on groundbait, I'll use anything I've got!) and cold water to reach the consistency that is required. I tend to make all my method mix up the night before I go to have less hastle on the bank and someone once said it was better to do it that way. Good luck.
  19. I'd like the Daily Sport, because its full of useful information and brilliant for current affairs to keep you informed on the bank.
  20. A sketch would be nice Gaffer. Still having a few problems!!!!! Cheers
  21. I have recently seen a pop-up rig that is, or was used by Terry Hearn. I've got the materials to tie the rig but I have had problems tying the amnesia and the ESP bristle to the rig rings without them looking like they would not hold out when a fish is on. Could anyone tell me what sort of knot I need to tie them with and any good methods? TA.
  22. Try http://www.boilie.co.uk . I have never made any myself but I have seen alot of links to this site when people have asked about making their own boilies. Good luck and tight lines matey.
