  1. Last year i was at Deep sea world in Blackpool I cant remember if they had any freshwater fish Can any of you guys Help me find an answer to that I know they had plenty saltwater fish lol
  2. Expensive i would think i once kept minnows in a tropical fish tank with heaters years ago they lived for about 2 years or more grew large ( for a minnow ) they also got used to the hand that feeds them they would take dried worms from my hand
  3. I was not aware of all these in scotland but sounds good you may just of tempted me to travel to some of these locations Andy Thank you
  4. i would much rather GO FISH FOR A KISS
  5. However if I were restricted to just 1 lure I always take my spinner making kit with me to the river so if river is in flood & dirty , I make up a size 4 spinner with bright beads & a silver blade but if river is small i will make a size 2 spinner with gold blade also many other variations when conditions differ As it takes less than 2 mins to make a spinner from scratch then it is not a hassle to carry a small spinner making kit with you So getting back to the question 5 must have lures then for me it would be 5 spinners , All different sizes & colours
  6. Very interesting replies Thanks for making it such a good educating read guys
  7. How big is your pond , What other fish do you have in it
  8. I remember spinning tobies on alemoor resevoir near Hawick in the scottish borders Many people were all fishing the same area so i walked 500 yards along the bank to a part nobody fishes Ever it is shallow at the side for about 2 foot then suddenly drops of to God knows the depth I just put my lures in there & i had 8 pike in about half an hour No big ones The best was about 5lb It was great sport Everyone else i spoke to had caught nothing all day at the Best Spot ( Best i think not ) But i never told anyone of my catches If i did that would of became everyone elses Best spot
  9. I once was in Tamworth i looked over the side of a bridge i was amazed at the number of fish in the river there were thousands it looked like a fish farm and whole stretches were crammed with them i have never seen wild fish in such numbers in a river It was just upstream from a waterfall & near a large park that i think had an indoor ski slope ,I THINK if that is normal to have so many fish in english rivers then you are indeed blessed You also have better weather You never see matt hayes on tv fishing in Scotland for carp or perch etc....
  10. Can anyone tell me , If all our coarse fish species can be kept as pets in an aquarium I am not talking about taking fish from the wild but fry bought from a dealer / pet shop etc.......... Also does anyone know any people who keep say perch , roach , or maybe even pike as pets i would be interested to know
  11. What i really mean is our rivers up here , only have trout & salmon & grayling in them the point is you Know what your going to catch up here however you boys can catch a list of different species , You never know what you might catch Take barbel , You have them in your rivers , But not here also i would love to spend a day at my local river just catching perch or chub Think i need to move Before they do something mad & make scotland independant
  12. The fish used are called Gara Rufa they come from turkey and i am told they can handle water temp of more than 40 degrees centigrade The most any fish in the world can handle But if i am wrong , I am sure people will soon let me know
  13. I used the most expensive beat for an example However some beats on the Upper tweed let you fish for salmon on the same day each week from 1 st feb - 14 sep for only £140 per season ( Spinning or Fly ) So you get about 30 days for £140 I sometimes do this on average i catch 6 Salmon on the Tweed Every year ( Best ever 32LB ) But countless trout
  14. Spinning in Scotland is frowned upon Due to snobbery up here its not the done thing up here however i Love spinning i am so jealous of all our fellow fishers down south you have no trouble spinning down at your part of the u.k Up here our masters would not care if we had no fish except salmon so they can fleece people with their ridicilous over priced cost of salmon fishing Did you know ,1 day for 1 rod on the Tweed at the junction pool below Floors castle is only £3000 Cheap eh ???? I think not Salmon fishing is ok , But i would Kill to have some of your fish species up here You dont know how lucky you are Think twice about moaning about your fishing , Give us a thought up here You can only catch so many salmon & trout before you get bored
  15. RIK where do you fish for salmon & trout about do you get any BIGGIES
  16. Has anyone tried the fish spa treatment yet last summer i saw a tank of fish in a shop and i thought i am going to go for it So i paid my money & my feet were in the tank Very tickly at first but after a minute or so it became very relaxing That was the most relaxed i had been in years that night whilst touching my feet they were amazingly smooth after 1 treatment with 100 fish in the tank I always said i would NEVER do it but i did 1 of the best things i ever did i recommend it to anyone Give it a go , go along to your local shop it Will surprise you I have very tough skin on my feet but the fish ground it down in 20 mins
  17. I myself enjoy river fishing with a flow Do many of you share my view or do you prefer still water If you had to choose 1 What would it be
  18. Having just watched River Monsters on tv it had me wondering What type of alien fish would adapt to our rivers & lakes i watched a fish called the snake head and it seems to eat everything in its path Hope they never come here as they wipe out Native species I am guessing the uk would be too cold for most of these deadly invaders But what if some did arrive on our shores & how would we cope What in YOUR opinion could thrive in our rivers & lakes that we DONT ever want too
  19. I only fish rivers too , So my knowledge is limited Going to blackpool in june Getting Megabus to Preston Can any of you lads tell me what bus to catch from preston to blackpool also how much does it cost SORRY FOR NON FISHING QUESTION
  20. A very good informative answer You are right i think in all you say I have caught trout at midnight with a size 18 ,Jet black fly so these chaps must have super senses Maybe some not even Known by Man
  21. Also when the river is running off after a flood & it is a beer colour , I find it great for fishing the worm i have caught trout & even salmon whilst using the worm . Can fish see a Spinner in dirty flood water or do you think it is the vibration that causes them to attack as i have had many trout in rising very high dirty flood water
  22. Would you folks say it is easier to catch fish in clear water regardless of method used or do fish find your bait ,lure etc with other senses than than just sight and are you confident in fishing in cloudy water compared with clear water
  23. So it would be safe to say There is an advantage to the uses of both methods ie , None really being better than the other
  24. A fish can see a 2mm fly in total darkness just use the same set up as you would do during daylight hours
  25. If its U.K. game fish then none has more raw power than a river caught salmon or fresh run sea trout or a resident large brown trout , That can lie in the Rapids for Fun
