  1. I used to fish the Mill at Turvey when I was a nipper. My grandad knew the owners of the crisp factory so allowed us to fish it (it was private water). Perch, Roach, Dace, Pike and eels were all hooked. No Chub though. The crisp factory changed hands and it was never the same after that. The factory is now residential flats - I bet the fishing is not good. Had some nice Dace downstream and seen Chub caught. Apparently there are some good Barbel too, but never seen or caught any. The further down the field you go, the better the river looks. Another thing ... I am fed up of "above Bedford". Where exactly is above Bedford ??!
  2. I can only see a few problems with all of this: 1. Any fishing programs generally are aired at around 11pm - so only the anglers watch 2. The programs are generally based around the usual format - show the venue, talk about set up and then catching fish. I agree that some coverage of the environmental aspects would help With regard to a presenter, I haven't seen Chris Tarrant's name mentioned. Ask a non-angler if they know Matt Hayes and they will probably say "who?". Ask them if they know Chris Tarrant and 99% will. He appears to be a good angler with the personality and popularity amongst the non-anglers upon which to build a following. Plus he would be doing a program about something he obviously cares about. If he gets the job, I'll wait for my 10% recommenders fee !
  3. I have used this site a few times and recently had problems ordering. However, the site appears to be fixed now. I shouldn't worry about email responses ... they are quite slow in replying generally, but always deliver the goods if that is your concern.
  4. This kind of thing drives me mad. Someone is fortunate (or has put in the time) to land a big fish. The next thing you know, people arrive en mass to try and catch ... the same big fish. Why ?, what is the point ? The other week I caught a 3lb Chub (from a local stretch of the Nene) that probably hadn't been fished for before. I'd rather do that than land a 7lb-er a week after someone else did.
  5. Keep your fingers crossed that they don't get "lost in the post" like thousands did in the midlands when introduced last year.
  6. about £60. I have heard good reviews of the MKiddy Mi power rods, as well as the Shakespeare Powerplays. I am a big fan of the Shimono technium specialist quiver which I use for river chubbing and roach fishing, hence me leaning towards the Nexave. Local fisheries for me are Canons & Castle Ashby, Heyford etc - Carp around 5-6lb, plus an abundace of Tench fisheries (which I prefer to be honest). Appreciate your advice on this
  7. I'm thinking of purchasing this rod for general carp puddle and tench fishing - any views on this rod ? cheers
