Funnily enough, haven't posted on here for years and then when I searched the 'net this came up! The reason is that a friend has cleared out an attic and found a mint condition B James and Son Avon Perfection - I'm not sure it has been used that much. Looking on the net it seems it isnt a run of the mill split cane rod and commands a fairly good price. The question we have is what do we do next? Can someone give us a heads up on an honest second hand tackle dealer/specialist that we can take it to who can have a look and advise us? Were based in Oxford, so someone close would be good.. A.

Hi Havent been on here for what seems an age! Anyways, simple answer is the garbo rods are superb at pretty much all price points. For 20-30 quid you can't beat the Knockout II for quality and price as a starter waggler. Most people say 80 quid when you ask them how much they think it costs..it looks and feels it - I know, I have three! For a feeder you might want to look at the squad pellet combo - for around 35 quid you get the feeder and a spare top which makes it into a waggler as well, like the old style twin top avons - again superb rod. I'd seriously start with these, you wont be dissappointed. Bare in mind though these models are really popular and you may have to search around to get them - i also heard new models are arriving in 2009 so these may not be available much longer. Aswhi

Hi, For my tenpenny worth - Abu Conolon Premier feeder 11.8 ft / 13ft Had this for a while now - 2 years - (and its sister match and method rod)- Originally they retailed at around 130 quid?? WMAC do it on special offer at around 60 quid. Absolutley superb rob for bream of all sizes - have used it for skimmers right through to 40g feeders on wiers for bream in the 5-7lb class (and they pull back a bit, I can tell you...). Used to use a Shimano Technium multi length feeder in a similar vein. IMHO, the Abu is better in terms of strength and action, and has a really confortable reel seat - a bit wierd looking when you first see it, but a real joy to use. A.

Hi After having a range of seat boxes over the years I finally decided on the X3. Brilliant piece of kit, hard wearing, comfortable, incredibly stable and a great leg system for levelling out, even on really wierd shaped banks. Can't really put my finger on what is the key thing about these boxes, I just think that PI have got all the little bits right on this range and that makes it a really solid product. As said before - you wont regret getting one - except when all your mates keep wanting to sit on it and try it out, like they do with mine when I'm trying to fish. BTW, not affiliated to PI - just a very happy customer!

I fish a lot in a weir which has a big shoal where they average around 5-6 pounds. You need a lot of groundbait to hold them, and using VDE Gold Pro Bream can get a bit expensive. One I tend to use now is plain brown crumb, mixed with dry brasem and then a large amount of barley as loose offerings. I boil this, drain it and bag it up with a teaspoon of red food coloring powder form the chinese shop. Freeze the bags overnight and it comes out red. It seems to hold the bream well as they graze over the top. Fish with worm/red sweetcorn cocktail, or even hook a couple of grains of barley on the hook as a change bait. Works for me A.

Hi Had exactly the same problem with mine last year - the drum rotated but wouldnt come off to reveal the spool - turns out line had wrapped around the centre spindle. The way I got mine off was to completely tighten up the clutch and twist, and eventually the drum came off - I assume the twsting cut the line and the tight clutch aided this. One alternative I considered was opening the reel and seeing if the spindle/spool etc could be released and then getting access to the spool and drum from teh back. Hope this helps A.

Hi All, Haven't been on here for a fair while, and it seems the 'happy family' has grown fairly big! After a break from fishing for a while I'm replacing my pole. I've been looking at the Premier Legion or the Sensas 604 (spending about 500 quid). Anybody used either of these for a days fishing, especially at full length? Any opinions appreciated. I'm planning to go and have a trial in two suppliers in the next week, but thought I'd also have a look for any comments you guys may have on these two. Hi Macca, The Thames at Rushey near tadpole bridge is a cracking chub venue. Its 5 quid day ticket.Try the pegs left of the car park as you look at the river . Can't remember the peg numbers but there is a big tree on your side of the bank and its about 50 yards from the end of the carpark up river. The tree peg and the 2 to the left of it are great chub swims fishing feeder or waggler over the far side. best of luck Andy

Hi All I've just got back from france and bought some Sensas stuff. I bought some Sensas green (Sensas Verte) shot in a range of sizes and on closer inspection the BBs and larger shot look smaller that normal for their equivalent size here in the UK e.g. Anchor/dinsmores. This has me wondering - does anyone know if these are actually lead as opposed to safe shot- do the french still use lead? any help appreciated. If they are then I've just wasted a few Euros! Andy

Hi Biteless funny you should say that - last weekend I was fishing a new lake and had 3 jack pike (upto 3lb) on the trot on single red maggot fishing a pole, 4 elastic and 18 hook. I also noticed that a lot of the roach we were catching looked a little mauled - my best guess was a big cohort of small pike with not enough food fish so they were switching to what was available.i.e maggots etc.....? Andy

Hi Richard I don't know if its a 'big' tench water or a 'big' water with tench in it (:-)) but a guy was telling me about a lake in Witney which costs 25 quid a year for membership (can't remember its name but its also partly a nature rerserve. He suggested passes are available from Predator angling in Kidlington. He really rated it as a tench water and said was well worth a try. Sorry the info is a bit sparse but it was a conversation a while ago and I never followed it up. Andy

Hi again The guys I've talked to recommend maggot/caster with groundbait for the central track (deepest point halfway across) and/ or chopped worm and caster with a worm fished over the top for bream , roach and perch (i caught a lot of perch on chopped worm last trip). Also corn and bread work well when fished far over the other side for carp. However, the far bank features (i.e.nice trees and bushes) have been cut right back this year and may have a bad effect on the productivity of the far bank line. I'd loosefeed pinkies or chopped worm down the middle and fish maggot or worm over the top and you shouldn't go far wrong..... hope this helps Andy
