Cheer guys, still smiling this morning!
-
This time of year it should be up to your waist there - really fear for water levels this summer.....
-
Great pics Chris. Thanks for being chauffeur and for the afternoon tea - was a godsend and resulted in me attacking the afternoon session with new enthusiam (and warmer hands).
-
Well my index finger was numb all weekend!!!
-
Agree, I would be less annoyed to find a carcass but a single bite - Hopefully it will return - it looked quite a fresh kill - and one of the local crows (or was it a rook I can never tell!) made the odd foray to peck at its stomach!
-
FA Cup weekend - no Prem League games - & Beeb don't have the TV rights for the cup. Nornal service will be resumed next weekend...
-
Nice way to celebrate your 100th blog entry too!
-
Hi Chris - juggling pic is my fav too!

Ah! Possibly. 15 posts usually triggers full membership rights....

Crikey - can't ever remember it being so busy!

Cheers guys - although it wasn't what I was after it certainly put a smail on my face - a really fatty too - obviously finding plenty to eat - possibly been scoffing on trout upstream.
John - my job was outsourced back in the summer - and 5 months and 93 (!!) applications later I landed an interim role at Oxford Univ working in the School of Geography, started just before Christmas and its just till March - but give me a bit of breathing space to find something perm.
Steve - I did speak to a piker on his way back to his car - big guy all in camo - hadn't caught owt and was moaning the fact that there were 8 piking the main river (sounds rather a lot to me). Will put up the pic on the NAA forum and see if I get any bites!
-
We'll just have to catch it again in February!
-
Pedant alert - tomorrow (22nd) is the shortest day - 22nd is usually the shortest day in the year before a leap year (hence why we have them!)

ps - 23rd will then have a whole 5 seconds more daylight!!!!
-
The first dawn one above is now my wallpaper - lovely piccy....

Rusty - that point swim 'used' to be a real hotspot - I caught my very first 3lb perch AND my first ever 6lb chub from that spot. Alas it was a while ago now - the perch was on the last day of the 98/99 season - the chub was in the Oct of the following season (ie 1999). Never produced anything as remotely impressive since!
-
Rusty - you weren't a whole lot 'lower down' on Saturday . Was VERY nice to see some ½ decent roach at last - though there was also long stretches of water that were pretty devoid of fish without an adipose fin!
-
Me neither John, usually you're lucky to get a couple from a shoal like that especially in low clear conditions. Just lucky to get them feeding with such abandon. Probably could have had even more - but was satisfied once I'd had the biggest one out. A day when polaroids were a must!!!
-
I wish I could forget the rainbow too - don't like seeing them in the river but your city duffers must be able to catch something on their annual flyfishing corporate day out!
-
Blimey John - well done - any pics?

Aye, it's a cracking looking fish - lovely colouration. And no, didn't cross my mind that it wasn't a barbel!! Fight was quite ponderous just like a large barbel - had real difficulty getting it off the bottom - bit of a surprise when I eventually got it to the surface and picked it out in my headlamp!
-
Thanks Chris - its all JCs fault - I'd done an online diary in various guises since 2001 - had planned to kick it into touch a while back until The Flying Tench dropped me a line asking that I continue!

Well if my officail photographer had been on hand to take a decent photo.... Actually my camera memory was full and in buggering about trying to clear it I inadvertantly deleted everything on it (including the pic of the 5lber taken 20mins earlier). By now I was keen to get the fish back so didn't notice my towel in the way ...
