  1. hi cranfield!love it!youre only the second person to suss out the handle!!! nice fish, its a llampuga, they are caught as im sure you know, a lot of he time using lures, across the surface, poppers etc.they spend more time in the air than in the water when they are hooked. i have only caught a small one, the delta of the ebro is probally one of the best known areas for them. tight lines!
  2. dan, the fish farms you see, like the one at altea are for dorada as well.the octopus, calamar, etc are caught at night, the next time you are there , look in the harbour at altea, and you will see the boats with the huge lights on the stern.
  3. hi dan, long time no see,how long do you think that these boats would be working for if that was all they caught!?! who knows, maybe the other fish were boxed, or indeed they had a bad day. the small stuff like that is sold in the markets to make stock for paella.a lot of the boats are fishing for dorada at the moment, you may have seen on the menu in calpe, dorada a la sal...literally a whole fish, encased in rock salt and baked in an oven. well nice! anyway hope you had a great holiday. best wishes.
  4. jim, you say that your money wont be worth the same if we join the euro? why is that?
  5. i reckon its on of bernard mathews turkeys!!!!
  6. we had one lad at our comp (exmouth in south devon blow his hand off at the wrist, while packing a mixture of sugar and weedkiller into an old bike frame with a metal rod.a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing sometimes, for sure.
  7. hi newt, salar, hope you have a great time, sounds like its going to be fun!have you got any snook in the area that you are going to fish newt? the last time i was in america, it was on sanibel island on the east coast of florida, i had the good luck to be able to catch some. brilliant fun.good luck.
  8. i buy the perch fillets regularly, we do them on the bbq, with a spray of olive oil and some ground pepper. very nice.
  9. thanks tyke, i have had a look at the kingfisher site. i think it would be a good move to ask on there, if anybody knows whats up.the fish sim game looked quite good on the demo i saw, but if i had known that their `customer support`(joke) was so pathetic, and that you have to rely on the goodwill of people like tyke, to help you out. i would not have got it. i will certainly not reccomend it to others. thanks again.
  10. thanks tyke, i have no problem with anything else, touch wood, on the p.c.appreciate your help.
  11. not eaten pike, but, our supermarket always has perch fillets. really nice,i must say. much better than trout for example.
  12. hi tyke first of all i want to say thank you for your reply, i appreciate it. i have directx7 installed, i have disinstalled everything and tried again, with updates to the direct x7, i have also tried reducing the slider bar that controls the grafics a couple of notches, no difference. i end up having to turn the computor off without shutting anything down as nothing on the keyboard will work. even pushing the 3 keys together that normally does the trick!?!?!?
  13. hi judy, i remember one day, we put superglue all over a loo seat in the lads bogs. some poor kid got taken away, complete with bog seat, by the fire service,to the hospital.i cringe now thinking about it!guilt guilt.!!
  14. hi newt,i am talking about the area that is underneath the two p`s in the word mapoint, on the right hand side. i live in a small village about 15 mins inland.cheers!
  15. hi yakity, newt and everybody else. the threads on yak fishing have made me think just how much good fishing grounds there are here, that are difficult or almost impossible to get to,that with a yak would be a piece of cake. the area i am reffering to is between benidorm and altea on the costa blanca, in southern spain where i live.there is a low mountain range, called the sierra gelada, which is scrubland on the landward side ,and a sheer drop to the sea on the other, there are a couple of small islands, and many reefs and coves.i would certainly consider a yak when i next have a bit of dosh! newt, i dont know if you could find a map of the area im on about, on the net?i have trouble with anything too complicated like that!!best wishes.
  16. hi everybody, i just got given fishsim2, but have a problem with it working. i have e.mailed the tech support people, but had no reply.i tried to go on the`first fishing trip`as its described in the leaflet, and have followed the instructions to the letter, but when i click on the `go fishing`tag to start, i get the hourglass icon, but nothing else happens. the mouse will not respond, nor anything on the keyboard.i have tried other venues, but the same happens. hope one of you lot has an idea, at least i know you will reply, not like their tec support lot!!
  17. hi yakety, great looking boat!hope you get loads of fish with her. looks like the photos were taken at orecombe point? ah, memories!!best wishes.
  18. our coldest month is feb, when occasionally it drops to 5c at night. its still 16 to18 at midday though.the hottest weve had it is 44c in the shade. not just unpleasant but dangerous.you would be suprised how you acclimatize over time though.agree withyou though, much easier to sleep when its cooler!
  19. me..i had a lovely weds afternoon, cathing mullet from a local breakwater. 32c in the shade, gentle sea breeze, beer in the coolbox.such is life in southern spain! sorry lads and lasses!!
  20. hi yakety, beer would be a good place to try out your crab traps, we used to see shedfulls of them there when i used to dive there. best of luck mate.
  21. hi yakity, i hope to get out later this week for a bash at the mullet,i like to fish from the outside edge of the breakwater at altea when i can,you would do very well im sure with your kayaks here , there are hundreds of metres of breakwater with virtually no access by foot. besides the bass, we have fish called palometon, and anjovas. both very agressive predators, that are caught both by live baiting and by lure fishing.anjovas go up to 110cm, and the palometon have been caught up to 180cm, they will come right up to the beach or rocks some times, when they are chasing prey. a wire trace is essential for these , as they chomp through mono with ease.i had one take a small mullet i had caught, last year, i ended up reeling in just the head!hmm!anyway hope you have better weather next weekend, best wishes.
