  1. Good idea mate. I know there's a few Edinburgh folk on here
  2. As already said by Norfolk Boy Mikes is your best bet mate as it is on route to the better marks in East Lothian. More details here: http://mikestackleshop.com The other tackle shops in Edinburgh will carry a limited range of sea gear but Mikes should have all you need.
  3. Seen a guy doing this at Torness (East Lothian) a while back. He did catch a few but........ Can't say I was polite to him
  4. Great report mate. Didn't get out myself at the weekend but it's always a pleasure reading a report like this - someone getting out and enjoying themselves. Nice pictures too Good stuff! 101
  5. There are 2 fish in a tank. One turns to the other one and says "Do you know how to drive this thing?"
  6. No doubt most folks will be attending various Christmas nights out, lunches, dinners etc over the coming weeks so let's hear the worst jokes you get in your crackers. To get us started...(and it's topical) What creatures worry about their weight? Fish - they never go anywhere without their scales
  7. Oops! Nothing like leaving out the important stuff It's in East Lothian mate about 40 minutes drive from Edinburgh on the A1 to Berwick Upon Tweed.
  8. After seeing the forecast last night I decided it would be ideal for a shot at the Mullet at Torness. I've been eager to get out again since getting my first 1 a few weeks ago. I set off early and arrived at Torness just as the sun was coming up. A cracking morning! Just as I was setting up a few guys arrived to fish for Bass but they didn't seem to have much luck. I think the power station was pouring out cold water so that would probably explain the lack of Bass. The water was pretty still and it was easy to see the Mullet taking bread from the surface. It wasn't long before I got my first - a fish about 1lb. I then had a frustrating period when I lost 2 just as I was bringing them to the rocks - including what would have been my first golden grey! I fished through high tide and until about 2hrs after when the fish seemed to go quiet. In the end I finished with 3 fish - the biggest about 2.5lb. I also managed to lose another 2 right at my feet. A great morning to be out and great fun
  9. Without doubt it has to be landing my first ever Mullet. Hopefully the coming year will yield a few more!
  10. That'll teach him! He got 6 months http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_objec...-name_page.html I laughed out loud at the last paragraph
  11. Not a forum regular I hope http://news.scotsman.com/edinburgh.cfm?id=2282002005

    Gloves

Been out a few times recently and still can't fault my RT neoprene gloves - a snip at 8 quid to be honest.
  13. We've never met mate but you have my thoughts and best wishes. Hope it all turns out well for you both. 101
  14. LOL! I was in the process of editing my original post when I was called into a meeting and didn't have time to type what I wanted. I can't even remember what it was now
  15. I've a pair of RT neoprene gloves (fold back fingers) and have no complaints. In fact for under a tenner they've been great value.
  16. Funny 'cause my girlfriend said something similar last night when she heard the story for the umteenth time I think they hang round the power station outflow through the winter so hopefully I'll not have to wait too long for another crack at them. Cheers
  17. Oh I don't know! i'm working on it though
  18. Just back from landing my first ever Mullet. A nice fish about 3.5lb. I think I'm now addicted I can see now why so many on here hold them in such high regard. I'll certainly be doing a lot more Mullet fishing from now on! I found it frustrating at times but landing one proved how rewarding a bit of patience can be sometimes
  19. KT? No thanks mate Conservation it is
  20. I have posted plenty of times and got some really great advice Just sometimes log on hoping to pick up on something that I didn't know, hadn't thought of etc. I just get the impression that new posters might not post questions on here because they log on and think it's not the right forum given the thread list. I'm not knocking the forum - I think it's great. just posting my thoughts. Anyway I'm off out for my first session in about 2 months so fingers crossed
  21. Must admit that I agree with the sentiment of this post. I check the forum every night but the actual reason I joined is becoming less and less apparent. Don't get me wrong though as conservation is close to my heart but I really like hearing reports, tactics, tips etc. etc. etc. I'd be more than happy to have the forum split into sections with 'fishing politics' as a separate thread. I'm becoming quite tired of logging on to read somebody getting grief for what they've kept for the pot '2 dead Bass you should be ashamed' etc. There is a real need for anglers to debate issues that affect us all but I'll admit I like hearing how others have done, what they've caught, the fishing in their neck of the woods, what bait they used and the methods they used. Perhaps a separate forum would be a great idea? Don't take this the wrong way but the forum (as a relative newcomer) seems to be a bit of an 'old boys club'. I could log on any time and almost guess the people that were posting and what they were discussing. I'm a huge fan of the forum but I recommended it to a mate and his response was that 'I didn't find much to help me catch fish!' There is a great wealth of knowledge on here but all to often we seem to knock people who've had a good session whilst almost morphing every thread into the same 'hot topic'. I've had great advice on here, some of which has helped me no end. Conservation etc. is always worth discussing but given a separate section we could have an area where new anglers (like me) can log on and solicit advice from the people who know best - good anglers - and let's be honest - there's some bloody good ones on here
  22. Personal favourite is fresh Mackerel - just out of the sea
  23. Looks like a Dab - although I'll agree with Wurzel. Is that fin missing or caught in your hand?
  24. Been watching this thread evolve all day and I'm finding it very interesting. Again the level of knowledge on here is impressive. Apart from last nights 'fun' I haven't been able to contribute much as being a relative newcomer to the sport I'm still learning. Threads like this speed up that learning process no end and prove to me that I was right to join up. The forum can be a lot of fun at times but through reading what you guys post and hearing your experiences I am learning a lot about the sport
