  1. The CEFAS link was just for information only as I found it to be an interesting site!
  2. Check out this site for info on commercial haddock catches and also for other species... Haddock (all ages)in the North Sea... http://www.cefas.co.uk/fishinfo/haddock_all_ages.htm [ 09. September 2005, 04:57 PM: Message edited by: Stroller ]
  3. Would you apply the same tactics to catching dabs as you would to flounder? Cheers Colin: Where would mackerel/sprat come into this list? [ 09. September 2005, 04:48 PM: Message edited by: Stroller ]
  4. Cheers! I am in the North-West and fishing the Ribble estuary.
  5. Can anyone tell me the best bait & hook size for flounder? I have been fishing the local estuary using lobworm and mackerel/sprat strips using size 2 hooks. I have caught a few one of which was a good size but have missed a few fish and think it may be down to too large a hook. I think lug/ragworm would be the best baits but would like to hear of other baits that could be used such as maggot, slug, etc..? Thanks for any responses!

I have just started sea angling but have always coarse fished. When I was a kid (1970s) I used to catch lots of small flounder and a few plaice up to 8ins on earthworm in the tidal parts of the River Ribble in Preston (ie. upstream from the estuary). Once caught 30 in 2 hours! The best method was to float fish earthworm on the bottom so that the float was at an angle. PS : Used to get pestered by eels in them days! Maybe wouldn't happen now! 7. I ended up paying a few extra quid and buying two Abu Phazer 12ft beach rods for £32.99 each which is a good price as I've seen it at anywhere between £38 - £49 elsewhere (RRP = £49.99). I am not into advertising companies and I have no connection with them, but the service was A1!! Bought it from EWenny Angling Supplies (Bridgend,Wales) over the internet from and they arrived in less than 24 hours!! See here as there are a few sale bargains to be had... http://www.ewennyangling.co.uk/Beachcasters.htm Thanks for your responses!
  8. Thanks for your responses! Much appreciated! I can see the sense in having the extra leeway in the rod to account for wear and abrasion from sand over the years! It being an Abu did make me question what I had previously believed! Sea angling is new to me but I am learning quickly! Have even bought 2 books on the subject! This is a good site! Thanks again!
  9. Hi, I have just bought a new Abu beach 12ft sea rod via mail order. This is my first sea rod as I am just taking up sea angling. When the 2-piece rod is put together there is still a one inch gap at the ferrule. ie. the rod pieces don't fit all the way down. Is this normal? The shop said it was made like this. Its not that I disbelieve them (?) but I have had 3 coarse match rods and 3 spinning rods in my time and they all fit together perfectly so that there was no gap at the ferrules at all. Please let me know if this is right or not? As I am worried that the gap may weaken the rod! Thanks, Howard. [ 01. September 2005, 03:48 PM: Message edited by: Stroller ]
  10. I am an experienced coarse angler and am just taking up sea angling and need some advice regarding shock leaders. I was under the impression that I needed a shock leader for safety reasons. ie. so as not to kill a passer by!! But a guy selling tackle on the local market stall told me today that I only need to use a shock leader if I am using ledgers of 6ozs and above? Is this correct? I told him I would be using 15-18lb main line. PS : I was thinking I would use a 50lb shock leader with a 4oz ledger. Thanks for your advice! [ 30. 11. Hi, I am after taking up sea fishing as the sea is close by in Lancashire. I am an experienced coarse angler and have been using my coarse tackle in the local estuary catching flounder & snigs. I intend to fish the local estuary / promenades / beaches. I have already ordered an ABU 6000 multiplier reel and I have been reading up on beachcasting rods. I have been thinking of buying an ABU Enticer 12ft beachcaster rod. My questions are:- Q: Is this a good choice as a first rod? Q: Does this rod come in fixed-spool and multiplier versions? Or can it use either reel? If these seem ok I will buy the same rod & reel again. Thanks 4 your advice!
  12. I have eaten zander in a very nice restaurant in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and it was pretty good. Pike are also eaten there. I didn't fancy the cow brain delicacy though! Have they not heard of BSE there! In Moscow outside the Metro stations you see people selling coarse fish from stalls, ie, pike, bream and others.
