  1. No, it was this one. It has a larger capacity drum. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ROMOBOX:NEWLIST Plastic and S/S so it should last ok as well, time will tell....# Neil.

    VHF

I have had the same problem Danno. I sent my one back and I was given a replacement unit. The saltwater gets in behind the battery pack and shorts the unit out. I bought an aqua pack for mine and have had no problems since. I think any H/H VHF will be fine short term, with an occasional dunking. The more expensive units will last longer but some of the cheaper ones need that extra bit of protection to see a few seasons in. Neil.
  3. No mistaking the Red Gurnard when you see it against a reddish coloured grey one. Etive produces those reddish coloured greys as well, they are often mistaken for Red,s. Got my 65kg dacron as you recomended. I bought an 85 meter divers line from e-bay and ditched the 4mm poly cord that came on it. I managed to load it with the full 200 mtr spool of Dacron black line. Sorted for the deep holes now...... Proper Job... Neil.
  4. Have a wee look here Mark.. https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/Boots.html Scroll down to the £29.99 Neoprene boat boots. You will get them next day delivery as well, Unlike GAC. Neil.
  5. Woolworths keep them now as well.. Neil.
  6. Good report Paul, I hope you kept a few of those big saithe for flattie bait. Red Gurnard was one of my targets for this year, yet another failed mission for me. Well Done. Neil.
  7. Cracking report. I was so engrossed in your account of the trip that I thought I had been there with you. . Neil.
  8. I am only the one man film crew. The swimmer was my brother, "Dangerous Brian" ... What is the bar fitted to the front? Looks ideal for fitting accessories, just the sort of thing I am looking for Is it home produced or shop bought (supplier? ) The bar is fabricated from thick wall alloy tube. It's a DIY job. Brian has a TIG welder and makes trolleys, bars and rod rests etc for us skin flint Jocks. I am puting one on my P13 soon so I will take a few pics for you. Neil.
  9. An open sea re-entry taken today, bit of motion on the sea as well. no chest waders on today though.... I Might just have a Pollata roll clip for you as well Darnsarf..... Neil.
  10. Great Video Alan, 10 out of 10. If you do get one, don't film the prep. If you think the flack was bad for the coddy vid...... Neil.
  11. I will take the bacon on Sunday incase we have success. I will take a better camera as well and get some footage, good or bad. Neil.
  12. I see what you mean by the standing on the bottom theory. I can assure you though that Brian is 6' 2" tall. The clip was taken in the outer harbour at Burnmouth, SW Scotland, as can be seen by the backdrop. The water there at HW is slightly deeper than 6', nearer 20' I would say. Neil
  13. Here's a calm water re-entry onto a Scupper Pro. It gives you an idea of the correct technique to adopt. http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y60/salin...chestietest.flv Brian's next video will be an eskimo roll in a S'pro with his thigh straps on...
  14. Those are good pictures, gives us a bit of incentive to get out and give them a go. Keep them coming. I hope to get out for the Pike this winter up here in Scotland. There are one or two good lochs that hold some biggies. So far I have only had Jacks over the side of the Yak but there's plenty time. It's a good fill in for the winter months when the Sea fishing tails off a bit. Neil.
  15. Hi Dave, No he did not have a belt on either. The waders were a good fit though. Not like some of the baggy oversized RT ones that are on the market. I think if using the waders at sea, as you say,the belt would be a must. He also had his waders over the top of the Cag just to make it as fair a test as possible. Worn correctly it would be even better I would think. One other point, but something I would not recomend trying, is that he was not wearing a life jacket .It was just taken off for the test. There were 3 other Kayaks floating behind the camera for saftey as well. The bouyancy of the waders kept him afloat in the water without any assistance. Neil.
  16. The waders were as full as they could have been. He had been in the water for 15 mins before I took that clip. You can see the water running down the legs as he is doing the river dance, upside down... Neil.
  17. Well, I must confess,I thought a re-entry with chesties would be difficult, if not impossible. That was until today. After fishing all afternoon we returned to the shore. My brother went up to the car while I was cleaning my fish in the harbour entrance. He returned wearing a pair of neoprene chest waders, "Lets try out the re-entry drill then " he said. Not to miss out on a laugh I agreed and got ready for a rescue drill, just incase things went wrong. I thought he would struggle to get back in after a capsise, but no, I had to eat my hat!! Six times he capsized and slipped back into the Yak with the greatest of ease. At one point he rolled over in the water to tried and force air into the feet on the waders. He actually found the neoprene very bouyant and gave additional support in the water. He swam 30yds across the harbour towing the Kayak behind, no problems here either. I took a small clip of one re-entry drill, the quallity is crap but it gives you an idea.
  18. God knows, float I would imagine. I recon you could get up onto the plane as well if someone stuck a pin in your ar*e... Neil.
  19. Sorry, forgot.... Neil.
  20. I recently purchased one of the new latex SOT, Kayak Dry suits. They seal very well and you will come out dry every time. A word of warning though. Don't fart in them........ or you might look like this........................... Neil.

Right on you door step DrDoug. I fish from Dunbar down to Seahouses. I'm out every weekend. We have P13, Malibu 11 XL and Scupper pro that you can have a go in. This weekend I think we will be out from Beadnel on Saturday or a possible Skateraw trip on Sunday. Give me a shout if you want a go. Have you done any fishing or kayaking before ? Neil.
  24. Paul, If your trousers are still ok get a pair of latex boots fitted to them. I recently bought a pair of Yak Kahsmins and the ankle seals wicked as you described. I sent them off to Hammond and they fitted latex boots to them for £39.00. Money well spent I would say. I used them for the first time today and I came home dry. Dry Suits are fine while they last but the cheaper ones leak after a couple of years. They are worse than chest waders if they get water ingress. I was unfortunate enough to be in that situation some 15 years ago in the North Sea on a nice summers day. I became detached from my Kayak and could not get ashore because of a strong back toe in a heavy sea. The end result was an RNLI rescue and the first thing they done was slash the feet on my drysuit with a knife to haul me into the RIB. My suit was open on the front when I took a swim and filled up with water. I had a PFD on but I weighed a ton as soon as I left the water. Lesson learned, I now wear a two piece and carry a knife on my leg , just incase.. Neil
