  1. Hi Aden, I have a Grandslam box, that i've had for around 4 years. It's OK, but it also suffers from the hinge problem Worm mentioned. Also, the footplate falls down (due to being hinged) when being transported, so i have to secure it with some old pole elastic. It is a real pain to extend the legs on the box, as it takes lots of time effort, messing with awkward locking screws and getting the legs level. With the legs extended to a hight that is comfortable it won't fit in my car boot (VW Passat), as it's too high without lowering it on the legs. this is a real pain. Also, most trolleys support the main box not the legs, so again with the legs fully extended they catch on the ground. So obviously the answer is easilly extendable legs. However most footplate designs (as is the case on my Grandslam) are attached to the front two legs, so making any form of adjustment difficult adjustment difficult. I'd certainly buy a reasonably priced box, that didn't have this problem. Hope this helps.
  2. Thanks for all the advice, I will ask at my local tackle shop to see if I can get one of these Daiwa 4 piece rods close to my budget. I'll let you know how I get on with the fishing.
  3. Hi all, A long time since I was on the site, but I need a bit of advice. I'm off to Cuba in July and from what I can make out there will not be a lot to do, so you have guessed it, i'm going to fish for 2 weeks. It's a hard life!   So does anyone know to a reasonalably cheap, maximum £30 cheap tele rod I could buy or where I would get one from? It would need to be similar to a Carp /Pike rod. Any suggestions appreciated or advice on fishing in Cuba.
  4. All my local tackle shops have run out of the 30-50 gram ones and it seems that Kamasan may have gone bust. Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy a stock of these sizes, as they are the best feeders I have ever used.
  5. Hi Andy, I have had a Maver Strong Arm for a couple of years now, it has been fine and coped well with everything thrown at it, but is a little heavy at full stretch (12 1/2 meters). I have had a play with the Black Magic in the tackle shop and was VERY VERY impressed with the weight. There are not many poles for over a grand thet come in at anything like the same weight. I too would love to hear from someone who has used one, as i can see this being my next pole also.

  7. I recently saw some plonker turn up on a commercial fishery with his battery of rods etc, cast out his boilies and sit there all day biteless. All around him were pole anglers bagging up with cat food, meat, pellets, maggots (the list goes on). They were catching between 10 and 30 Carp each, while the ‘expert’ caught bugger all!!! I think it is about time these so called Carp anglers (I think to deserve that title you need to be able to catch them!) learnt that fishing is not necessarily about baits but feeding and presentation. Something you cannot achieve at 90 yards with 12lb curly line! If he couldn’t catch on an easy fishery, it just goes to show how poor are boilies as a bait!

  9. You should not knock things you just don't understand. If you match fished you would know why the use of the pole is so extensive. I fished a match on Saturday, which was float only with no poles. Many others and I lost a whole assortment of floats and rigs against the island vegetation that ran down the middle of the pool, as this was where the fish patrol and are caught. If I had been able to fish the pole I would guarantee that I would have lost no tackle and caught far more fish. More importantly we would not have left the bushes opposite looking like Christmas trees! When you have tried pole fishing then you can knock it!

  13. Cracking Thred Chesters1! 1) River Teme. Have not fished it for some years now, but have lovely memories of fishing for Barbel in the gorgious hop fields and the sun always seemed to be shine! Well it did in my memories. 2) River Severn It just has so much to offer! 3)The jam factory (Lower Broadheath. Many will disagree with this choice, as it is a commercial fishery, but i just enjoy catching fish and you can certainly do that here. Just an aside, having read Nightwings discription of Lake Superior, wouldn't you just love to experience it? For that matter any of the waters our American friends discribed?

  15. Hi Theodore, I have not actually fished for lake Trout, but I used to fish a lake which had been stocked with Trout and then had been turned into a Carp fishery. I caught plenty whilst Carp fishing. Most methods worked, such as float fishing or ledgering, even the feeder. As for baits, you can not go wrong with maggots or worms. One of the most successful baits I found was sweetcorn. Good Luck!
