  1. Interesting parasite we get here is a crustacean attached to the gills. Been finding it in a lot of cod. Looks just like a black worm with tentacles, but the tentacles are eggs. Just caught my first haddock i think - about 1.5 lbs.
  2. How interesting, thanks guys. Ive got 4 kayaks, 2 about 25 years old and the other two not sure, but i certainly paid less than £100 ea. Ones a double the others are all k9s i think. The k9s i am not happy about sea fishing from but the double is just great. Was out last week and got a nice cod. Mind you i am in Norway at the mo and picked up a good open 16 foot boat as few days ago, so i guess ive got the best of all worlds - lousy weather here. The kayaks look great and ill bet are a treat to use, just right for stowing in a garage loft etc, solid as a rock and in no danger from sinking when striking an obstacle at sea. Cheers
  3. Pay money, get drowned in beaurocracy, everything asked for is being done, but is it? The only loosers in a sea fishing licence will be the anglers. Do you really want to find out? Lets for instance take the much publicised identity card. First it was voulantary, then you would be fined £2,000 plus if you were found with out one. The next thing is your credit card will be linked to your id card. You go to a car boot sale, every penny you spend has to go through your id card into a little machine which everyone has to have, just like a mobile phone.(maybe even a mobile phone) For the benefit of everyone surely!!! Would you be happy with that? This is what beaurocracy and control is about. Its not about the benefit of whatever its about, its about control. Im not really paranoid, but ill just keep taking the pills anyway.
  4. Im in Norway till september and doing a lot of good sport. Would like to share the pictures im taking but not sure how. Can anyone help? Just been for a 14 hour trip, whilst caught nothing special got some pictures of a sea otter.
  5. Interesting, all the pictures i see on here seem to be of very nice new mini boats with paddles. Anyone use the old fashioned fiberglass kayaks?
  6. There4 are loads of cod around, but not in the uk. Had 3 of 12/15 lb in less than 5 mins near my house in norway.
  7. Looking for good sources of cheap fishing tackle. At the moment its mostly hooks and weights. Prices seem very variable.
  8. Hey, many thanks guys, i really appreciate your help. Im trying to do this on my own and its hard going. I feel very strongly that my project could be of tremenduous advantage for those who like doing their own thing as i do. There is so much on offer. Cheers
  9. Sorry about that, asked some time ago and misunderstood - never mind - so what is a signature and how do i go about putting a link on the end of it.
  10. Greed/stupidity and more, how can you complain about it when what we are facing is what we allways have faced - human nature. Mind you if 90% of the money in England is posessed by 10% of the population then pressing the right people should do the trick mmm, just a stray thought. Another little thought is i seem to remember there were 5 power stations burning sand eels in the uk - does anyone know anything about them, are they still going? Another little thing has anyone seen the film SOLYENT GREEN, interesting speculation about the sea being completely dead. Rather like the idea of eating the most readily available protein as a sort of "told you so". Cheers (with a grin)
  11. Just launched my website about my fishing hollidays in Norway. Whilst Boats are available the shore fishing is some of the best in Europe with large cod/pollock and all the usual. Inland are several lakes the largest of which is 4 km, all bung full of salmon trout and more. Anyone wants a cheap holliday of a lifetime try note - link removed syrphus edit note - we don't allow posting links advertising commercial ventures other than a tackle shop URL when you have no connection to the shop other than as a customer or similar. Some exceptions if a poster asks about an area and you respond with a link that pertains to that area. Do feel free to put the link as part of your signature though. Newt [ 18. 12. in some countries you have backhanders, in others you have the same but under a different heading. Fox hunting is not going to be banned, hunting is not being banned, what is being banned is killing foxes with packs of dogs. This also goes for hares. This is England, fox hunting being banned wont make any difference. The hunts must not get caught killing a fox with hounds, thats all. They cant even be stopped from charging over the countryside with all the kit as in the past So what is this all about? Im beginning to wonder if there is something else behind this cause the above is not difficult to work out is it. Those who supported the big rallies crying its fishing next have just responded to the foxhunters call. Think about this for size. A trawler catches a shoal of fish - that shoal goes straight into the hold where the fish die, sometimes it takes over 2 days; is trawling going to be banned because its cruel? its a darn site more cruel than someone catching a fish and letting it go, or catching one to eat. Hey how about long lining, the fish is pulled out of the water and the hook is wrenched out of its mouth by a winch arrangement. They going to make us all vegetarians because its cruel to kill a pig?
  13. Its all down to getting the stick well alight and making sure its not covered by the fiberglass wool. When going properly they do work and well at that. Sometimes they get a bit hot;if that is the case i can recommend some very useful pocket fire extinguishers, but in my experience they work best if you take your trousers off first.
  14. A book called beyond the 10th ball by Harlan major details kite fishing.
  15. mmm, i get the feeling my point is being missed here. Suppose the licence has nothing to do with fishing at all!!! Just raising revenue? Let me be a bit more blunt - taxation is a way of raising revenue, like the window tax; i suppose you could say that it saved on glass, so it was a good tax? What im saying is simply this - questions have been raised about how much its going to cost to have wardens and such like - im saying there probably wont be any wardens, if any just a token one or two because in all probability this is just another tax, they call it a licence because they wont get away with a tax. How many of you believe that the "proposed" identity cards wont be compulsory? It was stated quite bluntly that they would be voulantary, they just didnt add "for the first 14 years" then theres a 2.5K fine for not having one. Sure youll probably get representation on a commitee, but think WHAT DOES THAT MEAN EXACTLY. It means you go to meetings and say things, thats it, it dosent have to go any further, and believe me it wont. The wonderful thing about democracy is that if you know how to use it properly you can do anything you want. Identity cards supposed to keep terrorists out? No in reality to keep you and me under control. Whats betting the next stage is a real wonderful advance - your credit card is now attached to your identity card, so whats the problem with that? nothing except for one more nail in the coffin of freedom because the stage after that is you wont be able to buy anything with money, only with your card, when your bank account is empty you wont eat. Hey guys, no bailiffs, no education, no boats, just another way of getting money out of you. Cynical, etc? maybe but im a happy person who has seen this sort of thing all too often and find the inherent dihonesty upsetting to say the least.
