  1. Have you had a look at the Kempston stretch of the Ouse? Part of the river is (or was) free to fish, the rest is controlled by Vauxhall on one side of the river and Kempston on the other. I used to fish there many years ago when I was a teenager (Im 25 now) and saw many good sized chub. Pay a visit to Bleak Hall fishing takle shop, they will advise you more accuratley about where you can fish for free etc etc. [ 04. February 2005, 05:27 PM: Message edited by: Phil Adams ]
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, Im going to have a good look around today and see what I can find. I like the idea of making one from an old match rod, I hadnt thought of that. Although I gave my unused rods to a charity before christmas lol. Cheers for the idea's chaps.
  3. Hi all, Im trying to find a shorter general purpose fishing rod for the son of a family friend. Hes not a small lad, but would cope better with a rod that is a maximum length of 10ft. Does anyone here know of a decent quality rod that fits the bill? anywhere online? Its 2 weeks till his birthday but Id like to be able to help sooner rather than later. Many thanks
  4. quote: Most of the lakes around here have no closed season, so we will be fishing those till the magical June 16th, quote: How is the 16th June magical if you are fishing all the time anyway? Because thats when I can get back on the rivers....... 5. Ok that makes sense, when do you think he will be able to bet an 05/06 licence? Most of the lakes around here have no closed season, so we will be fishing those till the magical June 16th, then its time to go with the flow!
  6. ok so i guess its best for him to either wait (not likely lol) or to just get day/weekly licences till he can get a full one sometime in march. I think... Thanks
  7. Hi all, my dad wants to start fishing again (a good thing) but if he were to buy a licence now when would it expire? Am I correct in thinking it would expire March 31st 2005? if so, when are the new licences avaliable? Thanks
  8. I think you need to find a host for your pictures and link them from the host to AN. www.photobucket.com is one such place I belive.
  9. You need to "unzip" the zipped file. Just double click it and the contents will show. Look for a "setup" or "install" file within the zip and double click it, then follow the onscreen instructions. On board graphics cards are OK......but for games you would be better off with a dedicated AGP graphics card. More system memory always helps too. Hope this helps a bit. [ 27. 10. Sorry Newt I wasnt trying to be awkward, I just have an "issue" when it comes to buying unfamiliar brands.
  11. A floating line is probably the best for me, getting a line to sink after a cast is no big hassle anyway. The only problem is finding bulk spools of the stuff!
  12. I cant say Im fussed as to whether it floats or sinks to much, Im just after a good quality "general" line (in bulk spools) for both float and ledger work. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the links chaps. Has anyone used Daiwa Sensor in the lower breaking strains? if so whats it like?
  14. Hi all, hope the Chrimbo build up is going ok for you all Righty, Im in need of new line. The only problem is that Im likely to need quite alot of it! Most of the lines Ive seen are only sold in 100m spools in the lower breaking strains, but this would work out expensive. Does anyone know where I could buy 1/4lb bulk spools of lower breaking strain line? something like 4-5lb b.s. The lowest b.s Ive seen in bulk is 6lb, but at 0.24mm diameter it might be a lil thick. Any thoughts? Ta
  15. I suspenct that there are some very big uncaught carp in the ouse. I remember walking in the dark back to the car with my dad after an evenings fishing, and hearing the loudest "splosh!" from the far margins which sent huge ripples right accross the river; and that was at least 10 years ago. Tis amazing whats hidden beneath the murky depths sometimes!
  16. lol @ chester Nope Im not kidding Mark, I know Im in a good area but... a) Ive not had the time to be able to fish much over the past few years, and All of the fishing I have managed to do has been for carp and pike on stillwaters. Im bored silly with the carping and want to get back to where I started on the chub and barbel. Im looking for particular stretches/areas that are known for good fish, since Ive lost touch with rivers to be honest. Thanks for the links and suggestions folks, keep them comming please Ta
  17. As the title hints at lol.. Im looking for any good rivers/club waters etc that hold decent sized chub, roach and barble. Does anyone have any suggestions? Ta
  18. Parkers is a reasonable guide for prices. It all depends on how desirable the car is, a friend of mine recently spent close on £5000 and an H reg Fiesta RS Turbo (one owner, sensible tune, mint original exterior) and to me it was money well spent. 1200 for the honda is a bit tooo much though.
  19. I did, I went into Leslies last night and got myself a new rod and reel (impulse buying at its bestest) I also got some good advice and a nice chat. BTW, the rod I bought in Leslies did not come off the shelf, I was given an untouched packaged rod from stock; which is always nice. I buy from websites etc simply due to it being easy. I dont always have the time for going out and "shopping" for the things I want. The only exception is when Im buying something that realy needs to be tried before purchase; i.e high end electrical equipment (HiFi, HT), cars etc. I take your point about supporting local business and aggree with it, to a point; but at the end of the day its horses for courses. 20. Im hoping that you're joking lol Tis a games console made by Micro$oft for those who dont know, and I lurve mine [ 13. December 2004, 05:46 PM: Message edited by: Phil Adams ]
  21. Do you happen to know if Leslies send the goods off the shelf or do they send direct from either the manufacturer or warehouse? I personaly dont like getting goods (rods) that have been on the shelf, I like them from stock, but Ive no idea if leslies sell them off the peg or from store. [ 11. 22. What websites do people use for online orders? Ive looked about but I dont know who are the best. Im looking to order a Fox rod and shimano reel. Leslies is closest to me but I dont know how good their mail order service is.
  23. lol its amazing what a good thump can sort out, good on him.
  24. Thanks for the replys Im going to look into having my rod re built after chrimbo I had a good look at the Greys Prodigy Barbel and the Fox Specialist (1lb tc), both are lovely rods! I think I might plump for the Fox. I like the softer action for chub and roach, and I could use the Jw for larger chub and barble when its tarted up. Any thoughts on this? Thanks all
