  1. Gentleman, Not a bad day today. A few Perch on worms, nothing too big but am returning with a little more knowledge tomorrow for a late afternoon / dusk session. Your prayers were answered and for this I thank you all. Comus
  2. Fellow Anglers, Spurred on by the threads I've read on this forum, tomorrow,I begin my campaign to catch a specimen stripey, ( a fish over 2.5lbs). I will be taking some worms, dead-baits and shads. The water is a commercial carp lake of about 6 acres which allows live-baiting so will be trying that as well. I've printed off some of the articles on AN so that I can use the correct float and ledger rigs. If any of you could find it in your heatrs to mention me in your nightly prayers to the god of fishing I'd be grateful!
  3. Sadly Snatcher, There are very few places in the UK further from the Mull of Galloway than Folkestone in Kent. I was thinking more of a commercial water in Ashford. 4.5lbs!!!!!! I'd settle for a 2lber this season. We can all dream.
  4. Gobio, Thanks for the advice. Will be trying them for Perch tomorrow. Also rechecked my statement. Not £4.50 but £3.50.
  5. Gobio, Just took delivery of my new spinning rod and Chubby Shad this morning. Where did you get yours from. My 1 cost me £4.50 for the 4" version. Also how did you fish them?
  6. Budgie, Could I have a copy as well please....
  7. Well done Dean, Gave up the weed myself on the 1st and still going strong. Buying some new tackle with the money I'm saving.
  8. Hi, Can anyone advise me on casting weights for spinning rods please. I am looking at the Svendsen Sports superior rods on the tackleshop.co.uk site recommended in another post. They come in various lengths and casting weights. I hope to fish for perch with chubby shads and lures. What length and weights should I go for. Their will also be pike in the waters I fish. Thanks, Comus

    Pole bungs

Thanks for that Kleinboet, At 99p for 2 I can spend a few pounds to get it elasticated.

    Pole bungs

Rudd, I wonder if you can give me some advice. I recently bought my son 2 5m 'poles' off of ebay. (2 for 99p!) However it they came without elastic. They are telescopic and have an eye at the end. How should I be attaching line to this. I have read the threads on elastics but there's no way of attaching one to this pole. Thanks, Comus
  11. No, I was told by the guy who sold me my pod that the best bet is to ring them. Haven't tried that myself as my kit does the job for me,I tend to fish 2 rods only and my set up is mainly used as bank sticks unless I'm on a platform. Don't have a lot of experience but I can say that my set up is very light, compared to my sons plastic coated steel pod, which was bought for about £25 fro one of the mail order companies. Breaks down very easily for storage and transportation etc. Have never used any of the other 'quality' items so can't compare.
  12. I use the Chris Brown pod, with which I'm very happy. One of the benefits is the adaptability of the unit. I believe that Chris Browns can supply numerous extras to cater for different fishing needs.
  13. The Great Rod Race is on at 2230hrs this evening. I shall be watching the credits for the theme music title. If you receive a rather large avi file via e mail it's not from me (wink wink) Not copies...back-ups!
  14. Alan, Great story. Where in the Medway is open to day ticket fishing? Where would you advise novice river anglers to try first? I prefer ' out of town' areas. Thanks, Comus.
  15. Thanks Anthony, Straight on my favourites list. How do Ron Thompson compare with say Fox? Seem very good value.

    Braid

Thanks Budgie, Lots to learn. Playing with the 'Fox Guide to Carp rigs' book and a small spool of braid. Concerned that they would harm any fish should I ever catch one! Comus.

    Braid

Guys, Sorry if this is a silly question, if it is spare no punches, but is the braid being discussed by yourselves for main line the same as is used commercially for hook-lengths? The reason I ask is that I read Budgie's link posting and noticed that he states that braid should never come into contact with the fish, yet when I buy pre-tied carp rigs (hairs etc) they always seem to come with braided hook-lengths: ergo; braided hook-lengths damage fish. Have I missed something here?
  18. Rudd, Sorry but I can't find Chapmans website. Could you post the address please as I'm interested in a first time bivvy. Thanks, Comus
  19. I agree Chubsta. Don't fancy the hospital pond (Radnor Park). I also like to feel that I am in the countryside. Fished Charlie's Lakes in Ashford today and expect to try either RMC's Naccolt pit or the River Rother tomorrow.
  20. Only lived here about 12 years. The new A20 was already there when I moved here. Live just 2 miles from Beechborough and only found out about it coming back from a Christmas party on the top floor of a double decker. Well hidden!! I'll let you know whats in it should I join.
  21. I spoke to the club secretary recently and she told me that they were general course lakes but that the smaller one contained some Grass Carp.
  22. Beechborough Pond(s) are found about 2 miles the Hythe side of Etchinghill. Yes it's close to Frogholt. There are 2 lakes there now. Don't know much about them though.
  23. Yes Cinque Ports is still going. I am intending to join it next April. They still have some of the Royal Military Canal and 2 lovely looking lakes in Beechborough Park just outside Folkestone.
