  1. Hi Alan,Mick Simmons is in England. Mick Simmons, Penn Servicing 33 Farleigh Road Pershore Worcs. WR10 1LF PH:01386 552949 Good luck.
  2. Hi Alan, you shure have had some bad experiences with reels recently. Re. the Penn 112H,the man to speak to is,Mick Simmons of Penn Servicing Ph 01386 552949. He services Penns for both the UK and Europe, also stocks all the spares a really helpful gent.I have two 112H models, one over 45years of excellent service having had a few parts replaced over the years. Both made in the USA and fitted with one piece chromed bronze spools which may still be obtainable from Mick Simmons. These spools were vastly superior to the black anodised aluminium spools currently fitted to the majority of Penn multipliers. The Penn 975 and similar gold anodised reels are "high maintenance" eye candy as time will tell. Hold on to your Mitchell 624,not one ferrous part fitted, what a reel!Hope you get the 112H sorted as it very fine boat reel with an excellent rate of line recovery.
  3. Hi AT,sorry to see that you have problems with your new Shimano reel.I too have had my share of problems with the Malaysian built reels, unfortunately mine were purchased on line from the USA and unlike you I did not have a good local supplier.Check the two reel clamp securing bolt retaining nuts as they may have a counterbore on one face to clear the protruding squares on the securing bolts. It does not matter if they are not fully tightened as they are in tension when fully assembled on the rod.By the way shop around when buying Shimano as some UK dealers ie bobcotackle give very good value. PS I look forward to your comments on Penn particularly now that many of their reels are sourced in China.
  4. WNW Force Five to Six and you went back out again! At least you gave the Lifeboat time to get back on station.Enjoy Scrabster II but please take advice from the Coastguard before your next adventure when at least two boats may be involved. PS I have fished Scrabster, lovely place, lovely people however the weather there can be something else.
  5. Hi MBM Forget the beach, book a boat at Scrabster. NNW Force 5-6 nay bother!?
  6. The Ulster Provincial Council of the Irish Federation Of Sea Anglers represents a considerable body of both shore and boat anglers from Northern Ireland who may wish to become involved either within or without the Federation.
  7. Poach v.t.to take (game) illegally,no different to "false reporting".
  8. I am surprised any salmon have succeeded in reaching the Solway Firth given the number of legal and illegal drift nets off the N and NW coast of Ireland. I have a salmon/seatrout rod licence issued by The Fisheries Conservancy Board for Northern Ireland which comes with a log book and gill tags (for attaching to all rod caught fish). The Board has reduced considerably salmon poaching at sea, estuaries and rivers over the past decade and if the same results were to be achieved regarding sea fishing in the UK I would not have a problem with a licence. With regards to the Solway poachers. I say, Throw the book at them! Here in Ireland we have the "Mono Men" poaching from the Atlantic to the lakes. They are mostly part timers, tax free and vat free so as far as I am concerned "If you can't do the time... don't do the crime".
  9. Hi Sea Angling Hotspots by Hugh Stoker (ISBN 0-7090-3289-7)has a chapter devoted to fishing on Applecross with a map of the area showing both Shore and Boat Fishing locations. It's a bit dated, but a very good read.Enjoy your holiday. Cheers, Gannet.
