  1. Nice one YY, sorted at least! Very pleased for you. Got my new yak and posted some pics on the thread I started. The straps you fitted look pretty substantial so should work fine! See if you can convince the missus to let you test her in the bath! (Yak, not the missus LOL ) All the best.........SDD Just need some fish now LOL
  2. ooops wrong piccy!!!! meant this one DOOOHH
  3. On this picture, you can see a white circle, it was on the kayak when it arrived. It seems like a tube which extends inside the hull quite a way (6-8 inches), sort of "test-tube shape, fully moulded and sealed into the yak, into the centre of where the 6" hatch can be fitted!. Anyone know what it is???? You cannot get into it, and like I say, is completely moulded in! Weird!! LOL Just curious really! [ 03. April 2005, 12:19 AM: Message edited by: SeaDooDavid ]
  4. Just noticed! On this pic of my "returned" Scupper, it has NO drainplugs! How odd! [ 03. April 2005, 12:18 AM: Message edited by: SeaDooDavid ]
  5. Moulding for another drain plug (simply drill out and add plug!!
  6. The mouldings for the handles seem much more substantial than the other one (lesson learnt by OK maybe Jaffa?)
  7. Tankwell on this one has one scupper hole instead of the two very small ones on the previous model! Works better I think!
  8. There are two threaded holes for some kind of attachment, used it to mount my GPS holder! ALL fitting screws etc are built into the hull moulding so cannot leak! very gadgy I thought!! [ 03. April 2005, 12:15 AM: Message edited by: SeaDooDavid ]
  9. Hatches on NZ model are recessed for the straps and have double seals, which seem very watertight
  10. Hi all Had a good old paddle today....great fun! No fishin yet, just getting used to handling!. No leaks anywhere in this un I am glad to say!...I agree with Jaffa, checking your kayak individually has gotta make sense. I messed around today pushing bow/stern under water and driving hatch into waves to try to get water ingress (not a drop). The hatches on this new one have double seals (unlike the first one!) I suppose ALL models and makes have the odd yak made on a Friday afternoon when everyone wants to knock off work early, therefore neglecting quality work a tad LOL YY Hope you get sorted out sooooon! I am itching to get going fishing on my yak......some pics (a bit rushed sorry!) follow......cheers all.........SDD
  11. Good point Si! I can't see the point of drain plugs really! any water in my hull (washing out etc) I always pump out with hand pump and sponge the last bit!. I normally leave drain plugs alone as long as it doesn't leak!. YY Sorry to hear that you still havn't sorted the hatch problem! Have you spoken to OK suppliers(Johnson Outdoors)? The lady I spoke to was really helpful, they appear to value their reputation and I think they would sort you out one way or another. Their number is (Johnson Outdoors)01493 745192 (Maxine I spoke to) The hatches may well be different, even in the same model! My new SPTW is VERY different than the last one! Hatches have recesses for the straps and double seals!. Give em a ring you can't lose anything and they may have come accross it before. They seemed very knowledgeable. All the best SDD................ Going out now to take some piccies of my new baby he he!
  12. Hi Jaffa Don't think BC are gonna switch suppliers, Johnson Outdoors supply them, and they supply BC and others. The lady from Johnson OD sort of let it slip that the NZ ones are better spec! Thats why she had one sent, because I had problems, and she was confident NZ made yaks are better inspected!. She said the usual "of course very few have problems and are returned" as she would LOL but they were brilliant and no fuss about repair etc, just straight swap, fastest shipping at no cost, and are investigating what caused the other "scuppered" one (sorry couldnt resist that!...groan) to fail!. Couldn't ask more really and I am delighted with the new "up-spec" version. The thing that surprised me is the difference between the two!. Clearly the new one is the latest version with extra "bits" so I suppose it pays to ask which spec you will be getting!. Will post a pic of SPTW2 tomorrow and list the differences that I can notice. As for comparing with a SIK....There is none!!! I am totally hooked on SOT's now, even though I loved my Carolina (there's a Blues song there somewhere LOL) Thanks again for the help mate....SDD
  13. Hi all Just thought I would post a note about my experiences with my new (now ex) OK SPTW! Got one recently and checked the handles for bad moulding problems but were ok (Ta Jaffa!) However, took her out a few days later and noticed quite a bit of water inside when I got back (literally a few gallons!)The missus noticed as I lifted the front handle high in the air, that water P*$$*d out of the hole where the rudder mounting is!!. On closer inspection, the inside of the yak was visible through this hole due to bad workmanship. Bournmouth Canoes contacted OK directly and they sent me a new yak within 24hrs!. This one was made (and this appears to be the difference) in New Zealand. The spec is VASTLY superior to the first one I received (checked ever square mm as you can guess!) Very impressed with her, NO leaks, and superbly made!! Apparently it takes 2 days longer to get a NZ made OK, but IMO well worth it! Thanks Jaffa for making me aware of potential problems with OK Yaks! Don't let me put anyone off getting one because thay are fantastic..handle great, stable, fast, loads of storage....just make sure you get a gud un (again thanks Jaffa)...YY got your hatch yet mate?...Regards SDD
  14. Prowler Ohhh it will be a "when" for the Jersey visit!, we have been going for the last 11 years and have found NOWHERE better. We need our Jersey "fix" to keep us sane LOL. I don't play golf, we stayed there because they accept dogs and we always take our two with us! The place was very nice though (never seen an "un-nice" place in Jersey though!) Gonna try feathering over a place called "Selkar" rock tomorrow which is about half a mile off my beach. It has produced some lovely cod over the years so we will see what I can get!...All the best SDD YY good luck with the decorating!. My missus does ours!! thankfully LOL.......SDD
  15. Hi all Jaffa: thanks for the advice!. Checked the handles and thankfully no holes or cracks! Going to take her out on the sea tomorrow (Monday) had to go "walking" with some friends so missed the tide (again) Hope the weather is good!. Just been to chandlers in Windermere to get some S/S bolts etc to mount my small compass etc but will leave this until I have paddled her and find where the paddling arc is (as YY advised) so not gonna rush fitting. Discovered my milk crate was too big (need 11" X 13 3/4" so will have to look further afield!. It was blue anyway and we can't have colour clashes can we? ha ha. Will post a report of how I find her handling compared to my old sit inside! Thanks everybody for the advice and help.........SDD
  16. Thanks YY! will have her out soon for a test on the water (on hols now until 5th May so no panic) will take my time seting up like you say! Jaffa, what do I look for in the lift cords? sould there be a seal or something? Can see through to the bow, but stern area not accessable? Cheers..........SDD
  17. Hi Prowler Will let you know WHEN we come back over (at least once a year!!) we stayed at a B&B called "wheatlands" I think it was, a big golfing place, was very nice. Did a bit of body boarding at Plemont bay (at 42 ha haar) Plemont is sooooo picturesque!. I have been to many places all over the world but have never found anywhere to beat it!. If you fancy a paddle when I come over It would be great we could meet up go for a paddle and fish, and maybe have a beer to talk about how much better we are than anyone else (ha ha).......all the best Newt....thanks for the basspro link / pics! looking on there now!! ......SDD
  18. Pics posted on the "new arrival" thread Will let you know what I think of her in the water (compared to the SIS I was used to!) I hope you get your hatch cover soon! The weather is getting temptingly good I am sure we are all itching to get out catching them fish LOL Am trying to figure out how to attach my gps (magellan 315)Searching the web for a mount that can be angled!......All the best SDD

  22. Hi YY........sure has huge grin..... Is yr hatch sorted mate? was lookin at a few "fix" ideas on another site today re hatches! horaaaaay my new baby has arrived! I am now the proud owner of a new scupper pro TW. Not the colour I expected but stil nice (I thought sunrise was a gradual flow through of red - orange - yellow, whereas it is nearly all yellow with a bit of red at the back! LOL still nice though. Will take her out tomorrow for a quick spin on local estuary. I will post a pic tomorrow and a quick heads up of what I think of her (greaaaat so far!) A fair bit bigger than my old Perception Carolina was......bring on high tide tomorrow! yehaaaa!. The chaps at Bournmouth Canoes were superb getting her (and a few goodies) to me so quick! Great bunch down there! May even take my rod and have a quick dangle LOL..........Tightlines........Dave
