Hi Big Tinker, Have you tried raw bacon for chub? I tried it last year and managed a pb of 5 lb. Not sure whether trout will fancy it though.

My target this year was to catch my first Barbel. I have managed 4 now which has been fun. I have now seen some good sized river carp in the stretch I have been fishing and as I have not caught any before, I am going to give them a go as well. -
Hi, I've just registered on this forum after finding this thread on barbel. I've just started fishing the lea at Bayfordbury and have caught my first barbel. I never thought a fish could fight so hard. I've now had four up to 5 lb and thoroughly enjoying it.

I live across the field from Bayford lake and have fished it a few times. Its a nice lake with a good head of carp. My best out of the lake was a 15lb mirror but there are carp to about 27lb and some good sized cats to around 30lb.
