  1. I am heading off on my brothers boat in a couple of weeks. It is moored up around Henley and we will try and head up stream a bit. Can anyone give me more info about the area?
  2. I went out on Monday for a few hours before dusk. Tried a spot of stret-pegging with some worms after a big roach. But I had too much of a reed bed to fish over and strong wind to be able to do it that well. Should have stayed on the feeder with the bread really.
  3. It's my birthday this Sunday and I have got Monday off for a spot of Roach Fishing on the Bristol Avon. Good luck if you brave it.
  4. Have spent some time searching google maps and looking for potential fishing spots on the upper Avon, specifically for Roach. I am thinking of taking a trip out sometime soon and trying to get down to the river between Malmesbury and Great Somerford\Seagry. From what I can see some stretches are trout fishing but a couple seem to belong to local fishing clubs. While searching I found out about this guy who lives in the area and has taken plenty of 2lb ones from the Avon in the area. http://www.gofishing.co.uk/news/News-Searc...&R=EPI-3158
  5. I have sent Neil G a link to a site with a pic of a pike caught from the Bristol Avon. Looks a pretty decent size. Steve, shall we look to do a sunday sometime early in November then?
  6. Lovely. Are sundays good with you? I am low on leave at work till the new year and Saturdays are taken up with sport.
  7. Steve I think Malmesbury can be fished on a day ticket. If so, would you be up for a trip some time soon? I fancy trying out some stret-pegging for the roach.
  8. Indeed, I would think that any stretches we find between us will not be shouted about too much. Great-badir I tried to send you a PM regarding pike on the river but I think you are short of posts to be able to accept them. Will send it through when I can.
  9. I think I would probably go for the Amalgamation. Looking on the website now and they do still have some decent lower stretches as it is but with the added bonus of places like Malmesbury. Ticket is Jan to Dec so will try and do some day ticket fishing if I make it out this year then pick up my book in the new year.
  10. Sounds like these stretches are worth checking out. From what I can see the Amalgamation have rights to quite a lot in that area. I am torn though as I was also thinking of getting Bathampton ticket so that I could fish the stretches they have with the decent barbel. Although my only barbel so far has been from an Amalgamation ticket. Decisions decisions.
  11. Does Claverton still get busy then even in the winter? I haven't had any chance to fish much of the upper stretches apart from Malmesbury. What is the rest of it like from there downstream to Chippenham?
  12. I would definitely be up for a roach\chub session. I don't know much about the Brue. Does it have potential for decent chub and roach catches?
  13. Hello and welcome. I live in Bristol myself and seem to be the same as you in that I have not fished much for a while and just getting back in to it. Funny you mention Malmesbury as this is one area I will be looking to fish again this winter for the big roach. I did have a few decent ones out a while back but the 2lber eluded me. The Amalgamated group used to have two stretches but the farm land is no longer available as I believe it was sold for development. However they still have the stretch in town and when I was last there I spoke to a local fisherman who talked very highly of the stretch. My thoughts for the winter are to get a Bathampton Ticket so I can fish the stretches around Bath for the Barbel and Chub and then just pick up a day ticket for the stretch at Malmesbury when I fancy a roach session. Give me a shout if you are up for any trips sometime or want a chat about the fishing in the area a bit more.
  14. Hi, haven't posted on here in a long while but then again I haven't been fishing for ages, but just getting back in to it again. Looking to target big roach on the upper Bristol Avon over the next few months and looking to pick up a light feeder rod. I have been recommended Grauvell Specialist LT but wondered if anyone had any others I could look at.
  15. I think with everything going on these days and the greater dangers around dogs are well down the list at the moment. I agree with the microchips for the little s**s who go round causing mayhem. If they get found causing trouble with no owners to be seen then they should be put down.
  16. The problem with the death is that it will get a load of people jumping the gun. Any otter, mink, cormorant or kingfisher will be fair game from now on. At the end of the day, nature has got on fine without us interfering. If anything, humans catching fish for pleasure is not a natural practice, so fisherman can't really get angry about a predator catching and eating it's prey.
  17. I never met the man but you don't need me to tell you that all the posts above show what a kind and humble man he was. Thoughts are with the family and friends. On a side note, I am pretty sure it was Argyll who sold me my Avon rod. First fish I caught on it was a double figure Barbel. Don't think I ever got to tell him about it so will have to do it again for him.
  18. Does seem a bit much to have a go at the guy when you aren't even sure what he meant. Jumping the gun a bit.
  19. Glad to hear he is keeping well. I got to meet him a few months back and was a good chance to say thanks to him for all the help he has given me with regards to the Bristol Avon.
  20. Cheers for your help guys. Will pass this info onto my brother. Will hopefully get to fish there in September.
  21. My brother has just moved to Tring and is looking to fish the canal around there. Does anyone on here fish around this area and have any info they could give me. IE whats available where to fish etc.
  22. Good work Glenn. Will have to try that stretch out sometime soon.
  23. To be honest I didn't touch it's belly. I was shaking so much that I couldn't trust myself to hold it up for the camera. I will have to get some bigger scales and go and catch it again.
  24. Only that I found out afterwards what the club record was and think this may have gone close.
  25. A shameless bringing back to the top of this but I am looking for some more ideas as to how heavy the fish was.
