  9. how many of you guys are entering the starvinmarvin's winter competition-I plan to fish 2 venues minimum in the allowed 24 hours.I've never entered a fishing comp. before so I'm really looking forward to my first one.Let's hope the weather is kind to us.Good luck to all who enter
  10. darnsarf i use scupper bungs from O.K.bought from bournemouth canoes. How did you get on sunday we're all waiting for another of your brilliant write ups the last one was magazine quality!
  11. I was only about 400yards from the end of hengisbury head groyne.I launched from the mudeford quay, theres a slipway on the harbour side and it's only 2 quid to park in winter.you have to be careful with the tides here as you probably know speciman. If I want to launch as the tide is rising I go from avon beach,it's not a bad paddle- I do it almost every weekend in summer.I love the mark because of it's wealth of variety in comparison to the southampton area where I live.Give it a go you might hook in to the same monster-if you do and manage to land it can I have my trace back please
  12. I ask this question as I had the fright of my life on sunday and it got me thinking. On sunday I went back to my usual summer spot at christchurch ledge as the sea was like a millpond coupled with a neap.I took a box of californian squid hoping for a possible first cod.was fishing with full squid on a pennel on one rod and alternated lug and rag on the other(casing the place as a possible xmas comp mark). After a few hours I had a real hefty bite on the pennel,I struck and it was on,I managed to reel in a short way and then it was off taking line and had I not been anchored i'm sure it would have taken me for a ride.I was shaking with fear,it felt like a real monster.eventually the line broke at the knot to the swivel.I breathed a big sigh of relief but it took me a while to calm down.i would have loved to catch sight of whatever it was though.A couple of hours later I had a 46cm bass on the squid. next time I go there i'm going to try with heavier gear, who knows what might happen.oh! by the way the bass was a new p.b.

    Paddles

i use a lendal nordkapp, carbon fibre shaft cost about £120.there are lighter ones but it depends on what you want to pay and how far you intend to paddle.i'm happy with my nordkapp and sometimes i paddle quite a long way

  20. i've found it a good place to shop too darnsarf,i've bought a peak dry top there, my wetsuit and paddle/rod leashes.did you know that they are open every other sunday too?
  21. don't worry yakitty, the part of the harbour that we will probably fish is only about 4-5 ft deep and darnsarf has fished/fell in there already.i do agree that practice is needed though,i also hope he's got a drysuit and all the other essentials
  22. ydarnsarf, you don't need to buy a waterproof camera you just need to buy an aquapak camera carry case, waterproof to 5 metres,i've just ordered one from purple marine 20 quid.
  23. no worries starvin money ain't the problem, where to put all the toys is!
