    Flying gaff

flying gaffs are very effective, we use them on swordfish
  2. I have hooked dolphins(mamals) while fishing. I have also had them many times eat a hooked fish and all I'll get back is the skelaton head with the hook in it, iy is incrediable. The couple times i have hooked them it was a them eating a hooked fish and watch out! They stripped off 600 yards of 20lb line in seconds! In the summer off the southeast coast of Florida the kingfish and bonita stack up with sharks and dophin looking for free meals.
  3. yes, Lyle But Dorsey is also athletic for 5'4" 310lbs ( don't know how to convert that) hows the fishing?
  4. Dan was a stud, very athletic! I played with him on an EAST terratorial team and a US B side when he first started playing. They fast tracked him quickly to the National team. anytime anyones over in south florida drop me an email: rugbychiro@aol.com I would be glad to take you out fishing in our waters. Sailfishing has been incrediable with shots at 10+ fish when conditions are right.
  5. JohnT, I agree under Clive they began to play winning rugby like the western hemisphere teams, now ther back to the OLD 10 man game. I played a little for the United States, I played agaisnt Wales and Scotland on there tours over here. Scotland 1991 and Wales 1996 and agaist Ireland at the Benedorm 7's. Now that my body is broken down fish tournaments to up my competitive spirit!
  6. Don't think I've posted much, but watch your forum from the states. We fish hard in south florida and are fortunate to catch sailfish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna kingfish, snapper etc.... all within a couple miles of shore! But that stinken English rugby is terrible to watch with there new coach. In the world cup they played to the western hemisphere with the open game. Why go back to the boring, conservative, play for field position game? I've been very lucky as an American I've had the opportunity to play against Scotland, Ireland and Wales
  7. Happy Dude were was that king taken? was it speared? That thing is huge, we get some big ones but nothing like that
  8. If you like doing it, or you really want to do it, then that's fine. I hate doing it and would sooner do something else. My point is it dosen't seem to make any difference except I have more fishing time. I had better put my hands up here about a couple of other things we don't do. We don't iron. Christmas will soon be here and we will switch our christmas lights on. We won't need to put them up though, they are still all around the living rooom from previous years. We get a faint smell of burning till the dust goes but it does save a lot of aggro. The Christmas tree is in the loft with a sack over it all made up ready. Just take it out the loft, remove sack and plug in...lol Admit your jelous thats classic! don't like doing it, but think its a must
  9. I wash my rods and reels with soap water every time out( i fsih 2x a week) as well as my boat. This usually takes me 1 1/2 hrs but I feel it is very important to do! I also change the line in my reels every 6 or 7 trips out, unless I have a tournament and I'll change it even if its been used only once!
  10. Now that I have my electricity back from the Hurricane! I have also been following this thread from the beginning after reading on the forum in the US. There are always going to be exceptions, but most of us in South Florida really appreciate the fishing resource we have in our own back yard. There are not many places in the world were you can get 3 or 4 shots at a swordfish after sailfishing in the afternoon. Or catch bonefish and tarpon within sight of downtown miami. Snapper, grouper, pompano, dolphin, wahoo, mackreal etc.... We are all on this type of forum for our love of fishing. I have been swordfishing for 5 years now and have realized that this is the true gladiator of the sea. These fish figh harder pound for pound than any other fish i have fought. I have gone 4 trips in a row without catching 1 while getting at least 10 bites! Then you could get 6 in a row. It takes alot of time, effort, preperation to fish for swordfish. Taking a picture with the fish hanging is an accomplishment of your effort. Besides tournaments the only reason people have pictures is they killed the fish for food. I am a firm believer in conservation, i through back many legal fish of many species. But I do like to eat fish, so i kill what i will eat. Anything that is not to be eaten is released. I have grown up fishing my whole life in South Florida and the Keys. When I was a kid in the Keys the fishing was unreal! I also remember coming home from college and you couldn't catch a kingfish if your life depended upon it. Since that time with the conservation, which most recreational anglers use kingfish have come back huge! We are now seeing crazy #'s of sailfish the past few seasons due to conservation measures. When the longlining was stopped the fish rebounded. Don't get bent out of shape when fish are hung, taken a picture and then eaten. Put that effort into stopping the slaughter of those type of fish by the commercial interst, not the recreational angler.
