  1. Vagabond, Not to steal the thread but in the US many anglers believe the lobworm represent small snakes. Small snakes are favorites of many course fish in the US. Personally, I think they represent lobworms. Phone Nightwing, Who'da thunk it? Leaches illegal! Wonder why that would be. I cannot think of a good reason to not use a leach. Unless they are that deadly for bait. Phone [ 22 February 2002, 10:02 PM: Message edited by: phonebush ]
  2. P@UL, No expert here. It is my understanding all schooling fish have the capability to release a chemical alarm. What a shoal or roach does with the alarm I don't have a clue. Your statement is true for the US fish smallmouth bass but not true for a very very close cousin the crappie. So I have always been told - well Newt? Phone

  4. Only modesty prevents me from continuing here. I type - and type - - - and Ohh well, for an old dodger I get bye by buy. Use right fingers on right keys and still can't get the grammer write. Phone

  6. Unusual at best. Like Nightwing we have a lot of otters. Individual families become species specific by learning from their parents. We have trained several mating pairs to eat comoronts. Phone

  8. In most western states within the US raking or shuffling (raking with your feet) is banned, forbidden, outlawed and looked down upon in disgust. Raking is about the same as seining. I would liken raking to how you in the UK would look at someone lifting a carp by the eye sockets. Raking is especially effective for trout or other species that live in streams. We don't have an especally large population of Tinca Tinca:D:D Odd how custom dictates method. Phone I can tell by the casualness, raking is an approved method of attracting fish in the UK. No critizism intended.

  10. UK'ers Often you talk of someone (usually a group) having the right to a river. How can anyone have the "right" to a river? Unless, of course, this group accepts the negative responsibilities of the river as well; along with the obvious privledges. Seems somehow you Englishmen have gotten around English law. In Missouri USA unless a stream begins and ends on your property the unregulated public has some limited access to that stream or river and its content. Just wondering if there is a simple explaination. Phone

  16. They are definately stylized. Perhaps a Red-brested Merganser. But the beak is all wrong for a merganser. I think I would go with a benighn woody. Although I truly believe they are neotropic comorants in disguise. Or - gasp! the dreaded Giant Double-crested red-faced pelagic CORMORANT:D Phone
