  1. Yip, well if you want to pm me il give you a mark for a couple of conditions. Il stick a report on here if i manage to get out over the next couple of days.
  2. I keep saying it but the only option is to fish the north east coast of scotland more. Their is marks for every state of the tide and sea state. Whether its up way past aberdeen for clean fish all year round over rough ground or deres a 40mph north easterly pounding the coast deres always a sheltered mark. Having said that i still blank every now and then but it happens to the best of us! Im planning a sesh tomorrow even though their isnt much of a wind im fairly hopefully of at least a few cod from the usan area along with quite a few coalies and if its mega calm ive got a good chance of a pollock.
  3. Whats the conditions like? Did you fish it over high??
  4. Its the same up here in the north east of scotland. Parts of the coast that have fished particularily well, have been scratchy even in perfect conditions this year, namely the elie to st andrews area. But further up results have been as good with a large numbers of smaller fish showing this year. Using a match result from last year the north east match on the 11th of january was won with well over 53lb of cod with 12 fish thats a massive bag and the thing was I know someone who had 51lb and that was considered a huge bag. If you had less than 36lb in that match you didnt make the top 20.
  5. If you had let me know i coulda told you the exact sea conditions up north traveled all the way up here the day before had 4 hours of decent fishing and made if back for the weekend.... Personally i wouldnt be that commited tho. Had a 9lb 70z cod over the weekend on my last cast to come 3rd in a comp was well worth waiting for
  6. Im planning a wee sesh either tomorrow or the day after with the hope that my throat infection has cleared up by then will be around the angus area for sure. Maybe see you their.

    Bimini Twist

Ive used the bimini for a few years now virtually unbreakable if its tied properly. Id suggest getting the spider hitch perfected then moving onto the bimini, they are both extremely strong knots.

    Cliffs

You tried using a big pair of wooly socks on slippy rocks yet lads? Makes it a whole lot easier just straight over the top of your chesties/ Boots. Your cliffs sounds like a doddle compared to ours up here mostly vertical mudslopes aint fun i can tell you! Having said that i have a fair bit of respect for you boys who fish from cliff tops i couldnt do that as i dont have a head for heights! As for a two hook whiting rig.. If they are at distance i tend to use a loop rig. In effect a two hook flapper that all clips up. If you need further info pm me.
  9. Fishing the prolific area of the north east coast from Arbroath Harbour to Ferryden Lighthouse. Times : Registration is 8 - 9 at the far end of the vikki car park next to the toilet block. Any further details please phone on 01592 652844 and ask for mike or chris.
  10. Naw is 140mm across the back for an edible i believe unless its changed?
  11. No chance sorry barry! I fish for East Fife its a fairly well known club unfortuantely not one of the clubs with hundreds of anglers but a very competitive club all the same. The best bet for you barry is to try and get frozen velvets? Alot of tackle shops stock them dont no if Eric McClean does? They can be deadly at times especially for bags of fish, my dad took his double last year on one!
  12. Its the same up here the cod anglers are beginning to move on to other things and fish for other speices, my club league has never been so close in years my dad has **** it the last 3 years but not this one hes nowhere to be seen even im up their!! The scarborough lads all use the best edibles ive ever ever seen and they get them earlier than us in the summer hence the reason they all do well in the 1st summer east fife match of the year. Thankfully ive got 100 edibles in the freezer ready for that match this year. But i have to admit the scarborough boys have the cod fishing well and truly sussed!!
  13. I would like to see the boat do that to me over the rocks!! I would have the last laugh mwah!
  14. I still manage to get four lug a mussel and half a crab on a 2/0 and have more than enough hook point left showing maybe you need to try a wider gape hook like a varivas? Extras are my current favourite!!
  15. As i made the initial point ive got to disagree with what you just said Mike. Yes in comparison to a large cod a 2/0 hook is rather small but this is all i use for my winter cod fishing and im out every weekend from the rocks and enjoy a fiar bit of success. I find using a big hook will result in the large majority of your fish on days when the fish are finicky being lip hooked this leads to more fish being lost. Using a 2/0 pennel and a fixed paternoster allows the cod a nice mouthful normally hooked well down the throat. As for 4 lug not being able to fit on a 2/0 pennel frankly thats pish!! Four lug head hooked and cottoned on bringing the bottom hook into the middle of them will present a bait that if a cod bites your very unlucky to miss!! The reason a fixed paternoster is used on the rocks is due to the distance you sometimes have to cast and the average size of the fish caught.
  16. Im a qualified lifegaurd, but touch wood havent been in a situation other than basic first aid, where ive had to use it. Heard of a few club guys get washed in, im talking about a guy whos just back from Iraq no major fears at all he came along to us as white as a sheet hes never been so scared in his whole life.
  17. Not far away its a personal thing paula, I would go for a 2/0 pennel fixed paternoster clipped preferably although im not sure where the fish are on that particular venue. Fish about four worms on the hook head hooked and tie them together in a sausage type shape. If possible try and get some frozen mussel I think Eric McClean has some although im not sure. Combine this with the lug and you'll have a combo worthy of any cod! Mind use heavy enough snoods roughly 30lb because cod can shred a lighter snoods quickly. REMEMBER Dont make the same mistake as others when you get the first bite dont strike immediatly pick the rod up and wait for the big lunge from the cod it cant be missed, then keep waiting and you should feel nods thats when you know its hooked so you strike! Oh and enjoy...
  18. Itll be a good match. The best match will be the one on the 29th of septemebr Simon Hogan and that lot always come up for it we normally get just under the 100 mark 100% payout will pm you the details if you want them. Its run from the vikkis by me and my dad fishing is normally 11 till 5 or sumthing similar.
  19. Popped over from the sea forum, a good leader is one that was use called the bimini hitch virtually unbreakable and easy to tie. Try this for leader knots we find it superb http://www.animatedknots.com/index.php.
  20. Aye seen quite a few hardbacks coming out of cod! We get them full of sprats early august normally means their impossible to catch with crab and they wont take fish baits finicky buggers!! St Serfs match this weekend for any of you that are interested fishing for cod. £1000 pounds heaviest fish 1st 2nd 3rd payout for heavy bag and a prize table down to 15th place. Fishing is from 12 till 6 registration 9 till 1 at pittenweem fish market. Boundaries Elie to St andrews fishing over mianly solid kelp and boulders what better way could you think of spending a sunday afternoon!!
  21. Greys orion for around £100 would be a good option and I believe it comes with a lifetime gurantee as well.
  22. Never seen that before maximo, tho most decent fish up here in storms tend to chuck out whole rocklings and tiny lil edible crabs and the like. Had a fish about 7lb a couple of weeks back, it coughed up two whole rocklings still alive and kicking just shows the variety of their diet from rocklings to a crab and mussel bait!
  23. Its a good season up here although there is a distinct lack of decent fish over the magical 10lb mark. Although having said that things are looking good for the future with the amount of smaller fish that are in at the moment. Maybe all you guys need to move to appreciate how good fishing can be in the right area!
  24. There should be a setting on the reel ranging from fast to slow just put the sliding dial down so it can go no further!!
  25. Depends what kind of hooks and line??
