  1. He's got a lovely little shop, does some decent priced fresh fish. He runs some charter trips as well, like most of the boys here they get make their money from a variety of sources, commercial, recreational, diving, the rigs etc.
  2. I think you have to have a certain number of posts before you get a picture up. Nice boat, you should have no problems getting out to some of the banks and inshore wrecks with her. Cod should be here till perhaps May and bass showing properly from April. I think as summer comes you will be better off further out but at the moment you could get away with being 400 yards or so off the beach. If it blows up and then calms down you've got to get out there as the water will colour up nicely. I fish mainly beaches now but we have had a dinghy and a Romany 21 (in the river at Gorleston) but as family moved off she had to go. She was slow but stable. One day, once more..... BTW, I think there might still a dinghy club at Corton, though I believe they would now launch from Tramps Alley at Lowestoft North. IF they still exist, they might be worth a call for a bit of knowledge.
  3. Guess you're looking at boat fishing. Should be plenty of codling about at the moment, shouldn't have to be very far off at all; a few hundred yards. Some nice fish showing amongst them as well. You could be out there now cleaning up. Very few boats do the wrecks and I really don't know why. Big factor if you want to try I would think is water clarity. Off that part of the coast you might have to go a fair way off. Plenty of banks straight off the port to try for bass.
  4. John E, Zziplexboy, Norm B, thank heavens. I am not alone.
  5. Have a good trip. Hope the conditions are good - you will be glad you just missed these recent storms.
  6. I THINK John E put it on as a response to the 'thou shalt not kill' philsophy. I know that he and his crew return lots of fish they catch, not sure if I could say most as I do not know for sure. To catch and keep is becoming a bit of a no go area on here.
  7. I know Steve, nice to see them but not really interested. Good time to take my nephew I guess. They've been gradually coming up from the south, thin I have heard.
  8. Three and a half hour session on Sunday. Crabs to start followed by weed and a 5" whiting ! However, great weather , was out fishing took the dog , met some nice people . Anybody else been out and had a nice time recently, with or without fish? It does you the power of good. With sport like I had, I bet you're all enthused to get out there amongst them.
  9. and I quote from the report '... bass in excess of 9lb have fallen to mackeral fished under the pier...' Not that specific then. I don't think it makes any difference that this has been mentioned on here given the coverage to people who can actually access the place locally. Anyway, we've got cod to catch now. In case anybody thinks we're arguing we're not. I know Holmesy and he is an accomplished responsible angler who puts back more bass each year than I catch. Why can't you all be civil like Holmesy and I? Been a bit of editorial manipulation going on by the EDP it seems. Holmesy, let's leave them to it and go fishing!
  10. True Kagger. Quite a few DSS dependents up there. Might be unpalatble to many of us but...
  11. Or appeared on WSF or in the EDP (INCLUDING THE SEA FISHING REPORTS SECTION! which this week was written by ......), or talk amongst the tourists and at the tackle shops. At least it's self regulating in that there can only be so many anglers on there at once. How many fishermen look in now anyway? Fact is most people who go there will get it wrong and catch nothing.
  12. Kept no doubt. There is a conservation message to get across, but how can this be communicated if anglers are not here to read it as they have been frightened off by being made to feel bad because they kept a fish? Surely alot of this is about conversion and changing habits? Or is it best to beat people with a stick to get them to change? You've got to engage with the audience, no point in talking to an empty hall. When people read that at the same spot 40 of these big fish are taken in a net in a day, can people not see that it seems ridiculous that fishermen are lambasted for taking one, perhaps the only one they may ever catch? I but can't help feel that this is a long game.
  13. and in case you didn't read the thread 'do or die', from another forum: '.........in the past 2 weeks ive had 2 doubles, 5 between 9 & 10lb an 8 a 7 a 6 and a 5 and about 50 mackerel, have also seen plenty of other big fish between 6 and 12lb.......'
