  1. Contact John McGloughlin @ Lough Swilly Angling Centre - ring him quickly as he's off to the Irish World Cup on Thursday http://www.loughswillyanglingcentre.com/index.htm Tell him the bloke that gave him Gannons Hotel tel no sends his regards Foggy
  2. Anyone heard of this new idea for a kayak - just returned from ICAST show in Las Vegas where there were a couple of new kayaks on show - one is very different as it can change shape to add stability, I will post up the info when the bloke sends it through - sceptics beware, no comment needs to be made just because it was seen in Las Vegas either. 3. Hi I have been over to the Lyon area on business before. The main river is huge going dowm to the sea - catfish not much else apparently, Parallel to is a clearer canal with pike which would be good with the yak. Henri Benech the owner of PAFEX http://www.pafex.fr/ which is based in Roussas may be able to help you. I know Henri well he has had a small go of my yak when I invited him to come over when I am in Ireland - so he knows what they are like & is always promising himsself that he will get one. Also there is Peche et Horizons in Marseilles - Georges is the owner. - not good english but if your going over your going to get native, if you like it or not. I did a posting of my experience of the 2 days of the Peche et Mer at Nantes where Prowlers can be found see the Kayak Angling UK News website http://www.kayakfishinguk.net/e107_plugins...ewtopic.php?475 Any further questions give me a shout Regards Foggy
  4. Johnson Outdoors are fantastic - I sent an email Sat morning - got reply Sat afternoon, got welding rod Monday when I returned from work - it doesn't get better than that. Its official I'm a fan! Any OK questions email office@johnsonoutdoors.co.uk Foggy
  5. Thanks for your comments - I will look and see if I can find this 'welding' rod. The Mask has notorious rocks, I took a brand new, never been in the water 19' Burkes design boat out for a week a 2-3 years ago. As the keel had not been soaked the boat rode a little higher than normal and the drift was not brilliant (usual with a new boat). At the end of the week the running strakes had lumps out and the the fiberglass reinforced hull had huge gouges out and that was without having any difficult situations to deal with. However the danger of the rocks and the changeable weather (on my last day the wind changed from a 4-5 westerly to a 7-8 Northerly squal in 3 mins and resulted in the one fishing party having to bring their boat back by trailer rather than risk running across the wind in these high winds) offers the trout an almost perfect living environment. Any other gouge solutions - experiences would be welcome from any other yakkers out there....... Foggy
  6. I have just returned from the Mask where I usually fish this time of year and for the 1st time took the yak, if you don't already know it has a rich selection of the sharpest most lethal rocks littered over most of the place - trout heavan/boat hell! I wondered if anyone knew a material to coat the aspiring holes that will certainly appear fishing this amazing lake on a regular basis - I'm due back out there in 1 month. Help please before I sink my Prowler. Below see 4.5lbs of Irish Gold, I'll post some pics on yakfishing UK news website soon showing results etc.
  7. Take a look at the Greys 10-15 lbs Longboats the adjustable sliding locking reel seat is a boon for yakkers. I don't know another firm that does one (I am fairly sure Simon Everett got one at the NEC earlier this year), also the rings are fine for braid and mono. The irish guys I know just use Slosh 20's or Ambaassadeur 6000's and get away with it ok. Braid - I like Fireline - just try to snap 4lb Fireline with your hands - you'll be crying over the blood on the carpet as it slices through your fingers so there's no need to go heavy on that stuff (just got some 4lb for my light spinning reels - its awesome, must be 11lbs breaking) Foggy http://www.greysfishing.com/products/searods_longboat.htm
  8. Get yersel a P13 and then try not to pimp it - you won't be able to help yourself. The closest you'll get to keeping it minimal is this. All the best Foggy
  9. What brand/type of trailer is the yakkers preference for a P13- have looked at a few - all have their merits any comment?
