  1. Chap's, Sounds an interesting trip, I have been considering targeting the pike on my local river Hull this season (probably around the Hempholme lock area). For those who are not to sure on fishing for/handling pike then go to this website look at pike fishing information on the left hand bar, it will tell you all you need to know. Freedom

Tpw, I have one these (my first) and although I cannot speak from vast experience of other Yak's here's my thoughts, Pro's 1. Ultra stable (slightly wider than the prowler's/scupper I believe) 2. Track's well (grooves in the hull underneath) 3. Plenty of in hull rod holder's 4. Seems pretty fast in the water (probably even faster when I learn to paddle more efficiently) Con's 1. Scotty mount already fitted on deck to far forward to reach easily (will be moving it to another location soon) 2. Due to the moulding for another deck hatch behind the seat the tankwell is set further back and I can only reach it by sitting side saddle ( I aim to fit another hatch here for gear in due course anyway) Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheer's

Cheers Mrwiggly, Really looking forward to the trip now (hope the weather holds as we are camping ). I have been in touch with the harbour commisioners and checked the limit of the bass nursery area as below Bass – Nursery area in place from 1st May – 31st Dec. includes all tidal waters enclosed by a line drawn 270 degrees true from Penleath point to opposite shore. You can fish for bass from the shore anywhere in the estuary at any time of year You can also fish from your kayak to the seaward side of the nursery area There is a minimum size of 37.5cm for bass Your info gives me something to go on as regards location/bait e.t.c. Many thanks, Nemo

    It's worth me going then?

Smudgertoo, Thanks for that info m8, you mention catch limits but I thought if its a nursery area you couldn't deliberately fish for bass at all (we don't have any nurseries in the grim north as far as I know so my knowledge is a bit green). Not that thats such a problem as theres plenty of other species to keep me occupied and I will be catch and release in most cases anyway. Cheers, Nemo

Chap's, After a successful Yak holiday near Weymouth (fished Bowleaze and Lulworth Cove) , I am planning my next trip. We will be staying at a camp site near Bodinnick which has its own slip and Quay on the Fowey. Question is whats in the there (please don't tell me it's a bass nursery area or anything) . Also is there any easy access along the rest of the coast nearby and what baits and methods work best. As always any info greatfully recieved. Cheers, Nemo --------------------

    Mullet

Phooey, You mentioned earlier that mullet are in the fleet at Chesil, is it possible to fish it as I got the impression it was some kind of nature reserve?. Reason I ask is I and other half will be coming down for a weeks camping in the near future and there is a campsite right next to it. Any info on this or other (safe, I'm a novice thy kno's ) area's would be appreciated. Cheers, Nemo of the north
  11. Mmmm..... Interesting.
  12. Simon/Croix, Some interesting parralels drawn here, when I got into mountain biking some years ago and popularity of the sport grew it was as if the peace and tranquility of the countryside would be spoilt forever (according to the ramblers/Horsey types e.tc). Now we have dedicated cycle routes jump courses e.t.c and the focus seems to have moved away from M.B's and onto quad's/A.T.V's. At the end of the day unless it has a motor, sports such as Mountain Biking and kayaking are fairly low impact envoiromentaly and water/country users need to rub along together for the benefit and better policing of all our leisuretime sports.
  13. "Much shouting and swearing ensued and I'm lead to believe he was given a bit of a seeing too by a mate" Bloody Hell.... If I was going to get sodomised by me mates every time I miss cast I'd take up a less risky hobby!!!

    Fly Fishin'

Thanks Snatcher, Good of you to offer, for those who know me well I'm not one to pass up the offer of anything for free (it's in me Yorkshire blood). I'm still in the process of rigging the Yak/sourcing some dry gear so hopefully I'll be sorted soon and have had a few practice run's before the mackrel hit the nearest coastline to me. In the mean time I will probably go down to the local canal (pike, perch and chub) and practice casting again after a long lay off....full face crash helmet and elastoplast on standby!!. Cheers,

SM, Thanks for the offer but I may be on call that weekend (need to check), I'm glad that the rod comes up to muster as If I spend any more cash on Yak/fishing gear my other half's going to have me sleeping in a tent!!. What line do you use ? I have just checked out Airflo's new ridge line which looks interesting (and at an offer price at the moment). Cheers.

    Fly Fishin'

Chaps, While tinkering in the garage setting up me yak I stumbled across my fly rod , which to be honest hasn't seen the light of day for some years. It's an AFTM 5-7 wheight rod 9ft and the line thats on the reel is probably a 7, question is would this be suitable for saltwater casting or not ?. Anyone know of any good sites showing setups for lines leaders and what flies to use. Cheers
  21. welcome Yakerbass, I had a sit in a P15 and felt a bit squashed in thats why I chose the perception freedom angler (AKA the Swing in OZ and America). Already rigged with rod holders and seat.
  22. Phooey, with regard to "the gear kept me bone dry" what do you have, a full dry suit or seperates as I'm still mulling over what to buy for meself. The price of drysuits freightens me to death and I'm thinking seperates will be more versatile!? Cheers
  23. Welcome Jolly, If it helps I have just gone through the same proccess as yourself and found this site invaluable as a point of information and if you get as good advice from these guy's as I did you will not go far wrong. I am not as tall as yourself but my choice of Yak was the Perception freedom angler one reason being was that there where to many horror stories flying about the O.K prowlers, also having sat in one at the boat show it did not feel as comfortable as the Perception. This model comes with 3 recessed rod holders and a scotty on the front. Storage capacity is not as big as the O.K prowler/scupper but I'm a light traveller when it comes to fishing anyway and I plan on retro fitting another hatch behind the seat in due course (moulding already there ready to cut out but may not need it). Consider safety, I have already purchased a VHF and I am currently trying to source some mini flares, if anyone out there know's a good supplier then please let me know. Cheers
  24. In my excitement I forgot to ask...... did you catch anything guy's?
  25. Great pic's Speciman I think I will be purchasing a drysuit next week after seeing those pic's I can't wait for warmer weather to road test my new perception freedom angler. Cheers
