  1. If you walk over the actual barrage were the gates are and walk to the right there is a bit of grass with a gate the fish pass is there you cant miss it ,it looks abit like a divers cage and every fish relys on a man with a net to catch it from the cage and manually put it up stream of the gate ,there is a thin deep chanel of water up from the estuary side up around the barrage to the trap , its bloody ludicrus ,
  2. So i see the salmon have arrived ,again, i,ve always said that barrage was a really bad idea for migratory fish , i once had to tell the warden of the barrage there was a salmon in the trap , he lifted the trap up and there was three salmon in there from 9lb uopto about 25lb , all the fish were absoloutly fuxxed they had been jumping into the cage for god knows how long full of bruises and lost scales etc a very sad site for the spectacular fish , the warden said the sensor that detects the fish in the trap was broken , I mean how bloody stupid is that , if there not getting eaten by seals or foul hooked by gypos there getting battered in the trap , its fuxxen crazy , as a game fisher it sickens me ,was out trying to get asalmon yesterday ,guess what ,nothing ...exept a lost brownie or verysmall seatrout ....

    bass

Hiya lads , well its about on us now ,the weather for lure rod action , im from north east of uk and i,m an avid lure fisherman when it comes to this time of year and am planning on targeting bass around this area ,i know im quite away up north for bass but i know there here i,ve had a few of them whilst baitfishing from one particular beach ,although i,ve heard of others caught from other marks but again it only seems to be on bait at night and its not that often, i dont know if it because lure fishing for bass hasnt really took of up here as much as the south ,anyway i,ve tryed 4.00 in morning and last light at night to no luck with the lure rod. i,m after picking any anglers brains as to bassy areas were i could flick a few plugs etc in the north east uk if not , has anyone seen anyone lure fishing for bass around here , i know of loads of bassy ground but just cant seem to see or connect with any on the lure rod , ,i think its probably a confidense thing ,if i just knew of ground were bass are known to lurk i wouldnt mind spending days trying to find there cycle and wouldnt mind that ,its just the ground i,m trekking looks bassy but not sure exactly if i,m wasting my time on these bassy looking grounds , as bass are very thinly spread up here. i can understand everyones horror asking for info on bass fishing grounds around here , i know what it like giving info out that precious , but i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me e mail me or anything ,, i,m very passionate about bass stocks etc and would rather see fish swim away , , anyway thanks if anyone can help me ,Dave...
  6. Thanks for that , i think i,ll be sticking to maxima whilst ledgering and fireline when spinning ,good choice ? ,or can yers recomend any other type of thin dia mono in 8lb strain for general ledger fishing for chubb etc and what colours does the populas go for ,when chasing chubb in clear water etc , the reason im after 8lb is , i fish snaggy water, with the chance of salmon/seatrout normally use dark brown maxima and thought ide try and get a thinner possibly clear line like flouro ,to keep the same strength but for better presentation . cheers
  7. Alright lads and laddesses , can any one tell me what berkley vanish flourcarbon line is like to use when spinning and ledger /feeder fishing , always used mono but seen this stuff and from my old flyfishing days it was a great leader to use being virtually invisible but also remember it was quite stiff and unforgiving and was wondering what it would be like to use on my fixed spool reel as my main line again for spinning and ledgering , cheers any help appreciated Thanks...
  8. Hiya lads , i wonder if anyone can tell me in there opinion which is the better rod for chubbing light barbel and various other types of ledgering / quivering ,between the original john wilson avon quiver 1.quarter t/c and the tfg river and stream whisper1.2oz t/c , ive noticed the tfg feels alot lighter and more slender than the wilson , is this due to the fact that the original wilson quiver is alot older than the tfg and all newer rods are very light and slender compared with the older model like the wilson , its just that i have both rods both unused by meself and due to them both being around the same t/c rating i only require one of them for my fishing and was thinking about selling one of them and getting a 1.75 t/c rod for heavier ledgering for big barbel chubb/bream etc in big rivers , For those who are wondering why i have two at the same rating is because i bought one of them purely for the reel which it came with , being a stradic 4000 gtm. any help or info would be greatly appreciated ,thanks ...
  9. Well then lads greatly appreciate your replys ,yous have helped me alot .Dave
  10. ER...... not as straight forward as i thought , but thanks for that chesters1 appreciate the reply .....
  11. I wonder if anyone can help me regarding fixed spool rel retrieve ratios , i have managed to get hold of a shimano stradic x 4000 with a retrieve ratio of 6.0.1 and have another stradic 4000 gtmra on its way with a retrive ratio of 5.7.1. and currently own a shimano baitrunner with a retrive of 4.5.1 , The question is i can understand the retrive ratio of 6.0.1. meaning six revolutions of spool per one revolution of handle and my baitrunner is 4 turns of spool per one revolution of handle why class this as 4.5.1. when its 4 turns of spool per 1 revolution of reel , surely wouldnt this be classed as 4.0.1. and where exactly does the five come from like wise with the other stradic of 5.7.1. wouldnt this be classed as 5.0.1 where do they get the seven from , this retrive thing is getting me all confused now ( which doesnt take much ha ha ha). As i do alot of spinning i tend to use my baitrunner , but which reel would yous lads recomend i use and for which time of year and which reel for which species , bearing in mind i fish for perch , pike ,chubb , seatrout and salmon ,in summer and winter , sorry to go all technical on the matter, and i know i could basically use any reel for spinning and maybe i,m looking to deep into the matter but i,m very intrigued , any info will be greatly appreciated , thanks ...Dave .s

    help please

i posted ,for a bit of info the other day on , what is the difference between the stradic 4000 gtmra and the 4000 X model gtmra , i,m just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between these two reels apart from the cosmetic looks , is it the line retrieve or somthing , i,m really after finding out , any help would be greatly appreciated thanks ...Dave
  13. Hiya everyone , another question ,, can anyone tell me if and what the difference is between the stradic X gtmra and the stradic gtmra, reels i can see they are slightly different looking with the x model having dark sections on it yet the gtmra is all pearl in colour or is the main difference, that you can get a 3000 model in the x range or somthing ,wereas 2500 or 4000 in the gtmra range ,, cheers

    which reel

Cheers steve , for my lure fishing im currently using a shimano 5000 gte with a greys grx 15 to 60 g loaded with 30lb whiplash for my summer/autum bassing /macky/salmon, and deep water piking ,and also use a shakespeare medalist 2001 reel loaded with 8lb fireline and a shakespeare purist spin 10 to 35 g for my little river perching/chubbing ,trout and light seatrouting, and was thinking of replacing my medalist with a stradic ,would this be a good sized comparison swap or should i go further down to a 3000 sized stradic bearing in mind ive just got me sell a avon/quiver rod and need a good reel for that for all my ledgering, from perch to barbel,so was thinking of a stradic to use for both .... Thanks ...Dave

    which reel

Hiya lads and lasses , i,m new to this forum (hello) and am after abit of advice , all it is i,m into sea fishing and lure fishing and dabble abit at chubb perch barbel and the likes ( without much luck that is)on an old match rod , the thing is ive just bought a second hand original jw avon/quiver and was wondering which sized reel to couple it with i was thinking of a 4000 sized stradic loaded with 6 to 8 lb line for general river fishing chubb etc ,and was thinking of a stradic as i like the look of them and a could even use it for lure fishing too , so two birds with one stone , but ive noticed on the rod all the rings including the first ring are very close to the blank ,, 1.Is there any reason for this? 2.I was always under the impression rods for using fixed spool reels ,especially a 4000 sized reel ,the first ring at least shold always be big to prevent friction from line spilling off reel in big coils . or is this just my sea fishing roots coming into my head.? So could any of you guys help me out in deciding which sized reel i should use ,thanks p.s. im after shimano nothing else ,cheers
