  1. "Give up sea angling M8 " More like go sea angling and get paid for it Ill be scouring the vacancies down at county hall dont you worry Wonder if its just the end tackle you can claim on expenses. Lets see now what about a plaice fishing trip next tuesday then if we are not too tired (and the weathers nice) we can try for some plump Yorkshire haddock on wednesday.
  2. Nice work if you can get it . I wonder if they will be asessing the dec. cod run around Flamborough Head?
  3. When we moved inland I got an allotment Glenn, that helped , then as the kids got older and the nagging increased I discovered gin , that helped too. Trouble is you could do other types of fishing but the sea is the only place left now to catch truly wild fish.
  4. Goods point Mut What value are tope and for that matter spurdog? With the price of fuel what it is and those ships steaming so far they must be banking on catching a hell of a lot of tope to make it worthwile. Makes you wonder if they are after something else. One other point where are these species landed in any quantity?
  5. I agree Colin the seies you mention was preceeded by one about Scottish whitefish trawlers called "Last of the hunters" and that was about twenty years ago so it looks like these things come around every ten years or so. Both series were very watchable and very uncontrived and authentic .lets hope this one does not dissapoint.
  6. Read it Challenge found it hard to relate too .All about deep atlantic I mean very deep atlantic in a great big Mega trawler not your everyday fishermen if I recall.
  7. Know what you mean Glenn Ive taken the kids to Brid pier a few times I kniow its not a mack hotspot but you always get a few in July and even though the waters FULL of feed- no macs. The kids wont go now "Boring-no fish." Last week I know there were masses about 10mile off prehaps the numbers are not there any more and they do not have to search for the feed and venture inshore and just swimalong happily offshore. Afterall they took a right hammering last winter.
  8. Cannot say Sam until we have seen the thing but all the commercials I have come into contact with up here in Yorkshire tend to be very unassuming , publicity shy and would not want sympathy. O. K. they moan a bit, but doesnt everyone ? Now Farmers they can moan and moan and moan and moan and round here there also very well off financally. Anyway-non fishing chat that better shut up or ill get moved.
  9. Hello Graham, Moved-YOUR LUCKY, my catch report and following thread DISSAPEARED along with a seemingly stressed out crewman.
  10. I am a fairly new poster to this setup and took the trouble to put a catch report up last friday only to find it has gone. Why? can someone please explain why or am I been niaeve (cannot spell niaeve).
  11. Well that goes without saying- Yorkshire Tea Bags
  12. John , Did you try it when you were on that southern pier all night eating bacon butties -7 rods without a bite. Put all those fruitless hours at Mappleton last winter in the shade for me.When you off to Whitby next? WITH TEA BAGS?
  13. Everyone has their right to express themselves roag fisher but I must say that if you had popped up 25 yrs ago Mrs Thatcher may have chosen another career faced with your arrogance. As for a visiting angler in your area too scared to go near the place now might meet you patrolling in your uniform.Do you have a whistle dangling from your lapell? Before you go mackerel fishing please take time out to read the post pinned at the start of this forum and make sure every letter of it is observed. Education, education ,education.
  14. Roag fisher, Are you a wind-up merchant,a son of neptune, vegan or some sort of religious freak . Either way your on the wrong site for that kind of talk. Concentrate your efforts in the proper areas of conservation and stop wasting my time replying to someone who it is obvious has a big knowlege void up there.
  15. Sorry all fish were kept, we had been out all week and caught 1 small one, so these three are for the table, sorry if this offends but i like to eat them! Seems its a sign of the times when anglers feel they have to apologise for keeping a fish or 2 for the table what are things coming to? oh and dont forget all those rules. Great catch Thurso I hope you soon get to land a big one there not easy fish to catch.

    Sea Otter 2

Day 6 of the festival , perfect conditions and only 5+skip. aboard, me,Eddiie,Ian,Les and some nice bloke from Wigan. Off to the bell bouy to get some bait first and fill a box of good mackerel in about 10 minutes flat ,including one that must have been over 2lb. As its the big one we are after its wrecking today so off to the 1st wreck only a few minutes away that soon gives up a couple of 10lb ling. Short , fast steaming from wreck to wreck and we all had a box of fish no winners but a good proportion of good cod to 10lb , ling to 15lb a crab and a cat. As is often the case there were some big fish lost they are definately down there and its very important to listen to the skippers advice on pulling up these monsters and use strong trace line. If the weather holds the signs are there will be many more large fish coming to the scales over the next few days.
  17. If Scarborough Council have problems with their toilets then Scarborough council should sort those problems out shutting them is just a plain cop-out and a disgrace. It is the councils problem NOT the fishermans/boatmans that the facilities are been misused with all those highly paid council chiefs sat in the corridors of power are you telling me that the only option open to them is to close the toilet block? It is pathetic and frankly if it was my desision Id be totally embarassed . Of all the toilets in all the towns/cities,in all the countries in all the world and Scarborough council cannot manage the one on Whitby seafront-PATHETIC. AND it gets worst, they even have the cheek to charge £4.20 to bloody park there. Anyway I visit regular from nr. Driffield and shall have to continue to pee up the wall cause believe me Im busting. Moving onto the broken plank now thats an accident waiting to happen I bet if the parking meter had broken it would have been fixed yesterday.

    Mackerel Time

Has anyone started catching from the shore yet in Yorkshire?
  21. If the fish are there Martin they will take either although spinning is,these days considered the more sporting method as you only catch one fish at time whereas a string of 6 feathers can result in a string of 6 fish. As for floatfished feathers never heard of that one before. Both fish give brilliant sport on light gear no matter which method is used but first find your fish.
  22. Yeh right there John followed the links and its all about last years. Suspect too much drinking going on post weigh in. What about appointing an I.T.crewman to keep the world informed?
