  1. Hi all, on the P13 there are 2 sets of tapped bolt holes on the outer sides of the footwells, does anyone know what these were designed for? OK gave a reply of "not quite sure". I was thinking of using them to mount a bracket across the footwell to further mount items on top such as rod holders or FF/GPS brackets. This would probably lessen the work and holes mounted around the rest of the craft. Any ideas if this type of bracket is available from anywhere? cheers
  2. SM, do you mount yours upside down or upright? only asking as thinking of getting a T25 camper ish to replacing my avensis estate, would a roller system mounted on the back be easier to slide the kayak on? cheers
  3. Hi lads, don't know if this would help but I've heard you can get 3rd party insurance (and other benefits) when you join the BCU. I think the annual fee is around £30. cheers
  4. Hi Newt, which weather site do you use? I've been using accuweather for a number of years and found it very reliable. The hurricane center gives good predictions as to when (week to 10 days in advance) and becoming more accurate as the low nears, of possible changes regarding fishing conditions from shore and as I've yet to find out from a boat/kayak, cheers
  5. other half stole mine, said she had better use for it. (probably has), (maybe valium after working with kids), no not me
  6. With the current big swell/surf conditions here in N.Cornwall, I'm thinking about trying the Taw/Torridge estuary. Anybody know of any launch sites, Appledore or Instow maybe? also when is it best to try? I was thinking 2 hours either side of HT as the flow should then be slowing. Cheers
  7. TPW, got it in yellow (want to make sure I'm seen), S2 & Blobby another 2 for the fleet!! when I picked mine up they had already sold 4 angler kayaks this week, sounds like the sport kicking off big time, cheers
  8. Picked up my P13 today , was nearly tempted to go straight to the beach (jeans and boots not really paddling gear), I knew this would happen, week+ of flat sea then when I finally get her the surf/swell picks up (locally looking at 8ft+) as I'm new to the game I would prefer calm conditions. Naming, maiden voyage and pictures to come soon.
  9. good for weather - I find this site is good for rain/temp (surprisingly accurate) http://ukie.accuweather.com/adcbin/ukie/index.asp this site is good for wind!! - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ I also use 'Bouyweather' for swell and surf height cheers
  10. Evening all, need some help in finding where to buy my kayak from. Yes I live in the bottom left hand corner of UK but I am willing to travel to view, sit-on, try-out my narrowing list of kayaks to get. Any ideas? cheers
  11. Anyone recommend any suppliers, I'm assuming that prices for kayaks and most accessories will be standard where ever you shop? Living in North Cornwall I would prefer to visit locally(ish), has anyone had any dealings with AS watersports in Exeter? cheers

    clothing?

Thanks for that Speciman, do you mean a dry suit (diving?) or dry cags? I haven't looked much further than wetsuits. I know you can get dry trousers, are these the cag types? cheers

    clothing?

Correct me if I'm wrong in assuming a wetsuit is normal for paddling, what Id like to know is which type do most of you wear? owing that most of your time is sitting and not standing on a board. I wouldn't want to get one with a zip in the wrong place (paddling comfort etc) zip across the shoulders? Also would it be better to get one a size too big if spending so much time on yer rear? cheers (more questions to follow)!!!
  14. Just realised******* what a plonker, thanks SpeciMan ignore my last. cheers
  15. Poss wrong SpeciMan? were you after another thread? cheers
  16. Chris, missed you on Sunday. I was down for a couple of hours 9-11ish, saw 1 paddler going round the island and 2 more to the left of the bay (one yellow other darker colour), assumed it was you. Any luck? Looked a lot calmer down there than the north coast, had white tops all weekend up here. Maybe catch you next time, cheers (ps how many posts before I can PM?)

    which PFD?

Thanks for all the replies, I must admit I have had a look at the Palm ocean tour and the price is fine for me, like you said Capt F F, what price for a life. cheers
  18. Thanks for that SpeciMan, must admit my first thought with a sot was a towel/sponge around the seat area for getting rid of excess swamping. How is the drainage on a p13? have heard on some reviews its a dryer ride than most? cheers
  19. Evening all, I've been going through all previous threads and fond the following in one, I quote, "a small problem with the Caper - the seat and central console area don't drain through the scuppers - water just sits in there in a big puddle. The depression for the seat has a rim around which prevents the water draining out. The foot wells and seat depression just don't drain." can anyone confirm this or has the problem been sorted by re-design? The caper is one of my choices of first yak and appreciate its not a dry sport but don't fancy sitting in a puddle for 2-3 hours at a time. cheers
  20. Anyone recommend which PFD to get? make/model, I'm looking for one with several pockets (mobile/flares etc). Safety is obviously the first priority but also comfort whilst paddling and haulling in those hugh fish cheers
  21. Thanks All for the replies, thats one I didn't think about SM, don't worry about looking after my kit, I treat it all like my offspring, fresh water showered and dried after each outing (pampered more than the other half!! don't tell her that though). One more thing, should I go for a 1 or 2 peice rod? cheers
  22. Question - I know there are many restrictions on paddling on inshore waters (lakes/rivers), is there any publications/web sites that give information on access, whether free or with restriction. Also, where if paddling on an estuary would normal restrictions begin. cheers
  23. While still deciding which yak to go for, need advice on which rods you normally take out. Do you go for general boat rods, something like 12-20lb class or something longer?. I have yet to get myself a boat rod so killing 2 birds as they say. On the reel front I have fixed spools and multis, other than spinnig would you use a fixed for trolling? cheers
  24. Hi Chris Good and bad news, I am off work on 12th and 13th, surprising for me being a shift worker (not off weekends too often). Bad news, I can't send PM's yet (not been a member long enough I think) but mob number is 07790905704, let me know when/where to meet. cheers

    gill nets

Danno, if its a public area and the net is illegal could you not cut it down? don't know about the legal side of this action, not to mention being watched and apprehended by those who set the net!! (could be risky). Anyone out there know of any implications (legal or otherwise) that could arise? I have previously 'shopped' someone catching under-sized bass on a local beach, not seen them for a couple of years now. cheers
