I would say about 4s 6d !!!

Seriously. The better cane rods of the last 70-80 years were either British by Hardy , Farlowes or by a few well known US makers. Most cane fly rods during this period were made in Japan from 1945-60,literally 100s of 1000s. They were initially taken home by the allied army of occupation and later exported by the truckload. To make them more palatable the origin was sometimes marked 'foreign' not 'japan' and the brand names were european sounding. Its highly likely that your friends rod is one of these. Or its an unknown european brand made in germany or austria after the war. The price sounds like that era. Either way there are a large number in circulation and the value is low. You can pick them up in good condition for as little as £20-30. Unless its a family heirloom best thing to do is sell it via Ebay.co.uk. Value will be whatever someone is prepared to pay for it.
