Bait Additives

I'm a great fan of flavours, with almost any bait or groundbait. Indeed, I'll never use unflavoured maggots for example ever again.

In particular I've used Archie Braddocks flavours but unfortunately Archie's recently retired. His books are well worth getting hold of though. I don't have any in stock at the moment but they aren't hard to find.

Different flavours definitely work best for different species. For instance perch in particular love spicy flavours, whereas I've done well with tench and bream on fruity ones.

It's important not to add too much flavour as this can have the reverse effect and mean less fish. This is especially so in summer; in winter you can up the level slightly. Additionally liquid flavours evaporate over time and so may need topping up. On the other hand powdered flavours last longer, and maggots for instance will actually eat them and therefore taste of them.

I use both liquid and powdered flavours but now Archie's retired I'll have to look elsewhere. This is because one supplier's pineapple say won't be the same as another's.
