Question sent in by Matthew Hindle - a bit of a wide topic, this one, but thought that some of you may like to offer advice:

Depends on the conditions of the day. There is no ultimate rig or bait at any venue.

I'd start with a helicopter rig [buy one if you're not familar] and a short pop-up link [or long if the fish are higher up in the water]

The Terry Hearn stiff combi link is a good bet.

If the water's murky...i'd suggest a longish length of snakebite with a few inches of coating peeled back by the hook with a bottom bait or pop-up.

First thing is to locate the fish, ask anglers on the bank or local tackle shop for advice. Keep rigs simple, semi fixed lead with a hooklength of 6-8 inches, either mono or braid. Small PVA bags are worth a try half filled with pellets fish pellet or single boilie on the hook hair rigged with a knotless knot. Pop-ups are also worth a try, 3 inches off the bottom. Sweetcorn and Maize is also a good winter bait, single grains. Also a small method feeder with a big bunch of maggots on the hook, can be a killer. Most important is to locate the fish especially in winter when they dont show emselves as often. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
