Sam - get a copy of the free image editing program Irfanview and grab the plug-ins from the same page.

 

Once you have it installed, just open a pic in irfanview, click on image at the top and when you see this window, pick your size. 800x600 is good although 640x480 is usually fine.

 

Once you've done that, save the file (use a different file name if you want to keep your large original) and the deed is done.
