Surface fishing

QUOTE]I've been known to use a piece of stick with a couple of float rubbers on waters where the fish were wary of controllers and the like. It gives the casting weight but particularly if fishing near trees the fish barely give it a second glance when it lands. [/QB]

I have used this meathod as well and found it to be very effective.

Koi Carp:

What about not using a controler at all. How about using a PVA net bag full of floating particles to give you the casting weight. :)

Excellent Idea!!! I will give that a go later in the year.

Koi Carp:

What size cork balls do you think is best to look like a chum mixers? I have some 10mm but didn't do the job as well in the past.

Carp are greedy 'Pond Pigs' and I've found that using 12mm or preferably 14mm cork balls to work very well. The carp see that it's slightly bigger than the freebie 'Mixers' and try to compete each other to the hookbait.

Also it's a lot easier to see being slightly bigger.(I never watch the float, but I never take my eyes off the hookbait)

Another alternative for casting weight is to drill as many sugar cubes as you want/need for weight then rig them on a hair of pva string.

I think the cloud of "sweet" from disolving sugar cubes with no obvious food source except your bait helps some too.
