Are carp indigenous to America? Not that it matters but I thought that people only fish for bass in America!

No they are invasive. Imported from Europe as a food fish in the 184?'s.  In fact, that's how they got a bad reputation. Eastern European immigrants, especially the poor and hungry became associated with common carp.

Perhaps you know, carp pretty much taste like the water from which they are caught.
