Another way is just to add a pebble or 2 to the bag, I sometimes add a couple of pebbles that are simular to the lead, I have switched over now to the pallatrax stonze leads but, thats just a confidence thing I reckon, as I cannot yet prove their worth

mesh bags should sink immediatly.

can i ask while on the topic, is there any difference in presentation underwater using a mesh bag rather than a solid one, if hooking through the top of the bags, with regards to weed, silty bottoms etc?
