Has anyone ever asked to see your license?

I've been fishing on/off for 3 years now, always with a license... i fish rivers where the bailiffs regularly come round, and a few commercials.. they always ask to see your day ticket, but never fishing license.. And the environment agency are usually out and about too, but they dont seem to bother either.

 

So does anyone actually check?

I have been asked three times in all my years fishing. All 3 times were in one season at Walthamstow Reservoirs and thats over 19 years ago!

 

I think that year they were making an effort to see the licence when they were checking the day ticket.

The reason most club bailiffs are not interested in your EA licence is because the EA are not interested in us. I am either bailiff or secretary to 3 clubs and when we phone the EA about out of season fishing and poaching we are always told that the staff are not availeable or that unless there are more than 5 breaking the rules its not worth their while turning out.

 

The only time my EA licence was checked was when the old close season was abolished on stillwaters and the london anglers ascociation kept the glemsford pits open.

 

A very hot EA bailiff decided he did not like it and got the venue closed for another year. I have never seen one since.

 

Much like a similar EA employee decided about several stillwaters in Norfolk last year. But fish stealing and poaching does not get the same response. All authority in this country stinks with the police at the top. They persecute minor infringements but allow major stuff to go ahead and then expect us to help.

 

We are full of jobsworth a**eholes so if they expect any help from me they have more hope of wining the lottery.

 

Thats why as a club official or commercial fishery owner we are not intrested in your rod licence.

Simple solution. Put a box on the licence for an EA bailiff to stamp when he checks it. The licence is then valid for 12 months. Licences not checked are valid until 12 months after they are. That way the EA have to get off their arse's, and out onto the rivers and lakes, if they want to be paid.
