renault espace help needed

managed to get some software renault service centers use,trouble is to use it after entering the model you need the vehicle type (list of them appears on a drop down) but havent a clue to what it is, DOH!!!!

don`t know where squidlips gets the bit about engine out to replace the steering rack? it should come out the side.

but some parts are expensive i hope your radiator hoses are good, i just had to get the 2 main hoses from engine to radiator,i could not get any aftermarket ones.they were ALL missing in the scrappy and ihad to give renault £86 for the 2.

but if you compare the facelifted mark one to the mk2 j reg on,the mark 1 is built better and stronger.

the steering rack is bolted to the bulk head just above the bellhousing area,you cant remove the rack because the engine is too close.

the icme repair time manual gives 14 hrs on a ramp in a fully equiped garage to do this job.

as a qualified mechanic who has done one believe me they are a real pig,

i think the j116 comes from the body shell on this age espace.i have tried to get the info from i site i found before but have been unable to get on it.http://www.matrasport.dk/Cars/Espace/history.html

squidlips you say the one you done was on the bulkhead?was it a newer model? the f-reg has it mounted on a cross member however it is in the same area.the haynes manual "says"it will come out the side and can be done,however i am not a qualified mechanic and i have never done one and am more than willing to believe its a pig of a job.

if you look under the bonnet up the back over the battery side wheelarch there should be a small oval plate with the number on.

oh and if you need the cambelt done (wise if you dont know its history)renault would charge £320 to replace it.

if your good with a spanner you can do it yourself,i did mine but it involves removal of the grille,front top crossbar/plate,and radiator to get at the cam cover.

its straightforward after that.

however replace the powersteering belt at the same time as it is fitted BEHIND the cambelt,probably for the belt cost do the lot while you can get at them!
