renault espace help needed

yep were getting one as a camping wagon (a little bigger than our golf) .

just to make it more unreliable its a "f" reg espace 4x4 quadra ,i have heard their a bit dodgy but the mrs likes the look of it and it has the wheelchair ramp fitting (hopefully not needed in her case for years) but theirs nothing about it on the web but french threads ,a couple of forum hits but thats it.

the haynes manal doesent cover it (great) but surely their must be enough loonies in england to form a help group or forum :confused:

they are a pig to work on,just to give you an example engine out to replace the steering rack,

i would leave them well alone,well they are french.

too late we have paid half and our £50 may not be refundable ,compared to a landrover they must be easy to play with (had to put it on a ramp AND dig a hole to replace the exaust pipe where it joins to the manifold)and have 4ft arms to do the nuts up and dont mention a landy gearbox

maybe a link and a link to a translator dooda may save you time ,trouble is with the french their law forbids them using anglicised words in other words sense

ramp already off ,4 wheel driveshaft stowed safely (expensive to replace) £100 squid for anything with a 7 month mot worth the effort and it keeps the mrs quiet too ,second £50 saturday and it will be mine

the prop shaft was removed as it wore the tires out :confused: chaps had it from new and said "everyone" removed them hense the need to find out more ,it maybe transmission windup but not sure

they do wind up the transmition, also if the tyres wear uneaven it alters the gear ratios because on them 4 wheel drive systems they usually have a transfer box that splits the power 60-40. 60% rear wheels 40% front wheels.it would probably be ok with one propshaft removed but just check it can pull away in gear with the hand brake on,

Gear boxes can be suspect ( like the old shape Laguna ).

 

Don't drive through water much over 6" deep, word has it they have a very low air intake.
