Kennet Chub basking in the sun today!

Had a quick recce to a local lake prior to a trip there this weekend.To reach the lake i had to walk alongside a stretch of the Kennet.On the return trip i decided to explore further upstream,on rounding a bend in the river i came to an area of extensive gravel shallows.There must have been a good 20 Chub some of a very good size just casually swimming to and thro across this shallow area.

 

Whether this was a pre spawning, post spawning gathering or just a spot of socialable sunbathing i dont know but it was a fantastic spectacle to witness.

Quite possibly,can bet your bottom dollar they wont be there come the 16th June
