Pellets in fast water

good plan but sounds like a lot of preparation for each cast. i like the suggestion of using pva bags but is that practical for use with a quivertip?

That's what I use - fairly stiff tip and not too big a bag -you only want about 10 - 15 pellets in there anyway, maybe a few crushed to form a 'dust trail' as the bag breaks down in the water.

I reckon if the combined weight of lead and bag isn't much more than a couple of ounces then the rig is pretty stable and my rod and tip cope fine.

Again, tailor the weight to your rod's capability.

Thanks for helpful replies - only just got them. Where I'm thinking of bait dropper is the obvious answer. Can't think why I didn't use it. Intersting to hear that regular barbel anglers obviously do use pva bags too, though.

But ljk - why only 15 pellets? I thought you needed loads of groundbait for barbel?
