Purple Herons nesting at Dungeness

purple who the hell names these things lol looks a big dirty heron to me

It does exactly what it says on the tin for me, it's a Heron with a distinct colour cast towards the violet end of the spectrum.

If you want a truly 'big dirty heron' then may I suggest Ardea goliath or the Goliath Heron. Standing 4' 6" with a wingspan of about 7' they are easily the biggest heron in the world.

Not sure they are the kind of bird I'd like to pick up. Maybe a box of Roses and a couple of eels would do the trick

You have just set my next chalenge, picking up a buttlefish, this will involve wetsuits and masks, and possibly kayaks, have just sent the marine radio for repair so it could be a goer

You may well get squirted in ink. Be careful that you don't get bitten. Most if not all cephalopods have a very sharp beak that is easily capable of slicing through human skin. I've never been tagged myself, but have been told that it can hurt like hell, especially if they cut out a bit of flesh.

 

 

Hopefully you won't come across one of these critters. If you watch closely just at the end of this clip you cab see this monsters radula or 'beak'.
