Anybody caught on single sweetcorn?

Thread's diverted anyway so I'll take the chance to agree with you. I never really appreciated perch until I started to catch fish large enough (relatively speaking) to really show off their colouring. The bright red fins and stripe definition on some of the Kennet perch I've seen are remarkable.

Yeah, I never tire of catching or even seeing other peoples pictures of good Perch, I'm even fond of the small ones although they can make fishing for other species a little difficult at times.

Oops better get back on thread. I always tip my worm off with a single grain of corn when Perch fishing, does that count as catching on a single grain

Hello, yesterday I can report I had a nice Carp run a single sweetcorn.

I fished a single grain of red (Strawberry) corn on a size 12 hook. No fancy hair rigs or anything, just a basic bolt rig with it direct on the hook. I placed it about two meters out, then walked about 18 meters along the bank so the bait was close in, but far away from me and the kids. A scattering of 15-20 red/yellow loosefeed around the hookbait, and a scattering of carp feeder pellets.... 20 mins later ''Bang'' the rod went screaming off :)

Sadly the sweetcorn was unable to prevent the Carp from finding every snag in the lake which caused me to lose it :*( The line held up well, it simply unhooked itself (Bloody barbless hooks!)

But erm... Yes, single corn worked really well and in good time! I will also add I have had no attention for 3 weeks on double corn hair rigged... Only on 1 or 2 corn directly on the hook???

Meh, it works :)

Thankyou, i have found it works now, couple of days ago i had a ten pound on a simple free running ledger rig, one sweetcorn on a size 16 with a handful chucked out, 5 minutes later had a 6 pounder but it came off right before the landing net, i was still chuffed with the ten pounder though :)

That's a shame.

PS if you want to not show off, try to avoid giving the precise weight...

I was simply trying to make the point that you can catch reasonable fish on very light tackle without a problem so long as you don't think you can just bully the fish and reel in.

Hi mate,

never tried sweetcorn in the carp water I usually go to, but another place I go I fish a single sweetcorn on a 14 hook all the time, and have had some very big Rudd, hybrids and bream. Its deffo a very good bait, and is easy to get a hold of, especially as my local tackle shop is closed on a tuesday AND wednesday...grrrrrrrr Anyway might give it a try for the carp next time!!

Its a wee farmers pond we go to....used to use maggots, but theres so many stickleback there you just get nagged off them all day, so we changed to sweetcorn. The big rudd and hybrids loved it, and it dettered the smaller fish. Also had a 4 lb bream on it....Maybe theyre just used to it in that place, but i've saw roach being caught with it somewhere else as well, so its worth a go
